Im a still life artist living in Victoria Australia and we, like many other places in the world, have been locked in and isolated for a majority of 2020. When ever the economy suffers, art really takes a back seat as people have far more important things to spend their hard earned money on, so I had been struggling to make sales this year as many of my fellow artists have. Out of frustration of no sales, not being able to get into my studio and lack of inspiration, I began painting in my kitchen in between homeschooling my two girls. I started painting these “little lockdown paintings” as I call them, a representation of all the things I have been eating, drinking and reading during lockdown. People could really relate to these paintings and started buying them at an astronomical rate. These paintings really have kept me afloat financially in 2020. Im definitely going to keep painting these sweet treats because they’re so fun to paint and people get all nostalgic and excited when I paint their personal favourite or something they had in their childhood. I try to paint one a day, but I think I’m going to have to do a few salad ones as I seem to be eating a lot of cake.
