Somebody Compared The Lion King 2019 To The 1994 Animation Side By Side

1994 was a big year. Nelson Mandela became the President of South Africa, The Channel Tunnel between England and France opened after six years of construction. And, of course, Disney released The Lion King, which eventually became the highest-grossing animated film ever (now, 4th).

A lot of fans were incredibly happy to hear it’s narrated by James Earl Jones, who plays king Mufasa in both the 1994 Disney’s Lion King original and next year’s film. But arguably the most impressive thing about the teaser is how amazing the visuals look, not to mention everyone’s excitement in meeting the Lion King characters, such as Nala and Simba, once more.

To show how much technology has advanced over the past 24 years, someone has even created a video, comparing shots from the two releases side by side. Scroll down till the end to see the two Lion King movies video comparison.

Stop remaking things that were already perfect, Disney. I guess a bunch of people will go see this anyway, but you really shouldn't. Every other "live-action" (CGI animated) remake has been a bland trash-heap compared to the originals so far. The technology may be better now, but the technique isn't. Where's the use of color?

No, please, no! Royal lions, monkey shaman and red billed hornbill with a sense of humor is acceptable only if they are animated! Making Cinderella with real people is one thing, but Lion King with real animals makes no sense! I will not watch it - better make it with real people.. oh wait - that would be Hamlet.

"everyone’s losing their minds" Don't overdo it. Maybe kids that haven't seen the original, but certainly not "everyone". Five minutes ago I didn't even know there was a remake. And I can't be bothered. I'll figuratively "loose my mind" when hollywood comes up with an original idea and not just another remake, reboot or sequel with fancy cgi.

Two Things: 1) It is not Live Action everything is CGI, another form of animation. 2) The movie has not yet been released, this was a trailer, wait for the 2019 before judging. Trailers are not the final animation. The final product will be a much finer product. This was to get the talk started

What’s so special about this? Any kid and their mothers can make a video like this. I look forward to the remake, especially because I was raised with the original. But still, there is nothing special about this comparison. Just a normal comparison. No internet winner or however you call it in the holy book of boredpandaism

I don't get why they keep calling this live action. It's still animation, there's nothing live about it. They've just changed it from traditional animation to CGI animation. Unless they're using real live animals, it's not live action. And who actually wants a more realistic scene of Mufasa's death???? Who would watch the original and go - 'you know this would be better if it looked realistic' No one! No one would say that!

Nothing could ever compare to the 1994 version as the animals can share more expressions through cartoons, and actually speak. But for it being a live version. They did a beautiful job. They did the best they could do for being live.

Okay, so I was talking to my mom and I mentioned the live action Lion King and she asked me what qualifies as live action. Does it just take realistic cgi to be called a ‘Live Action’? Most movies that are called live action have at least one real thing or a person, but I’m pretty sure this was just made in the studio. What do you guys think that the definition of live action should be?

Only thing that really bothers me: the original drawn characters all had a very distinctive individual look to them. One could place Simba and Mufasa side by side and easily tell them apart. But CGI "realistic" Lions look very much the same as each other. Oh well... no matter. I'm looking forward to seeing it and reliving the magic of the first time around.

The problem with these realistic reboots of cartoons is that the humor isn't updated, only the visuals are. With the realistic look, they'll have to make it a little less funny to work. High hopes though.

There is something wrong with Disney when they remake their own movies.

I know, that everything must be 3D and animated these days. But I love the old version, it looks so much better.

I know I'm in the minority (alone maybe?) but I never liked speaking animals, be it in animation or movies. The only exception was the Lion King and I was really surprised. I don't think I'll like it with realistic animals ...

Here is a little fun fact... The Lion King remake cannot be live action without one human in it. The reason Jungle Book was live action was simply cause of one person. MOWGLI!!!!

I'm looking forward to it! Loved the original. In response to GiveMeASloth, though, NOT looking forward to Mufasa's death, but at least this time I'll know it's coming. Had no idea the first time, so there I was, crying my eyes out...

The cartoon came to life!!!! Seriously: I know it's too soon to tell (because, well, I haven't seen the whole 2019 version yet) but I prefer the 1994 cartoon version.

I can't get over the cub's baby belly, when he's being held up, in the newer version. The older version doesn't have that detail drawn in. It's a little thing, but still striking.

Nothing could ever compare to the 1994 version as the animals can share more expressions through cartoons, and actually speak. But for it being a live version. They did a beautiful job. They did the best they could do for being live.

Dunno...the 2019 one looks kind of flat to me. I dont get the soul and emotions like the 1994 one. Beautiful images and high tech improvement in cgi, but nothing can beat the classic.

This is perfect! This is the first time fans will get the original, but more modern. Movies are always trying to change things up and to be clever by derailing the original book, etc. I can't wait.

I'm really interested in, and miss 2D animation, and I still love the original as one of my favourite Disney movies... and I hate that Disney keeps re-making their old films, as besides The Jungle Book they've been pretty pointless. But f**k if I'm not totally going to see this movie anyway.

Shot by shot remake = laziness. I'll pass. If I wanted to see a movie that is purely special effects and CGI of a movie that has already been done, I can honestly make it myself.

I mean it's amazing how they got so many animals to do that... I've seen people working at zoos and honestly, it's not easy handling so many animals and getting them to talk and act before the camera... Just wow... Edit: Also, people saying it's 'CGI' what is CGI?
