Somebody Compared The Lion King 2019 To The 1994 Animation Side By Side
1994 was a big year. Nelson Mandela became the President of South Africa, The Channel Tunnel between England and France opened after six years of construction. And, of course, Disney released The Lion King, which eventually became the highest-grossing animated film ever (now, 4th).

During the NFL’s traditional Thanksgiving primetime game in the US., the company released the first teaser trailer of the Lion King 2019 remake, scheduled to come out next summer, and everyone’s losing their minds.

A lot of fans were incredibly happy to hear it’s narrated by James Earl Jones, who plays king Mufasa in both the 1994 Disney’s Lion King original and next year’s film. But arguably the most impressive thing about the teaser is how amazing the visuals look, not to mention everyone’s excitement in meeting the Lion King characters, such as Nala and Simba, once more.

To show how much technology has advanced over the past 24 years, someone has even created a video, comparing shots from the two releases side by side. Scroll down till the end to see the two Lion King movies video comparison.

The video comparison
Judging by the above - so much more character and facial expression in the original animation.

It looks so realistic it’s acuallly scary. Amazing but The poor kids 😅
Stop remaking things that were already perfect, Disney. I guess a bunch of people will go see this anyway, but you really shouldn't. Every other "live-action" (CGI animated) remake has been a bland trash-heap compared to the originals so far. The technology may be better now, but the technique isn't. Where's the use of color?
Doesn't even compare. The Disney style isn't pure CGI, and why should it be?
Load More Replies...That is one movie I will NOT watch. I cried enough on the cartoon version, even though it has a happy ending. Mufasa's fate was one of the most traumatic experiences of my childhood.
Came to comments to see who supported this. Nope, can't do it. Cried at a CARTOON. Don't need to relive it in 3D. Nope, nope, nope.
Load More Replies...The remake might be good, but the 1994 one was original and it was art. It cannot be replaced.
No, please, no! Royal lions, monkey shaman and red billed hornbill with a sense of humor is acceptable only if they are animated! Making Cinderella with real people is one thing, but Lion King with real animals makes no sense! I will not watch it - better make it with real people.. oh wait - that would be Hamlet.
Wow... yes it would. Well apart of some minor things... but it is very very similar. I never noticed. Thanks
Load More Replies...looks c**p, hollywood has completely run out of ideas, hasnt it? either repetitive marvel b******t or remakes :(
"everyone’s losing their minds" Don't overdo it. Maybe kids that haven't seen the original, but certainly not "everyone". Five minutes ago I didn't even know there was a remake. And I can't be bothered. I'll figuratively "loose my mind" when hollywood comes up with an original idea and not just another remake, reboot or sequel with fancy cgi.
There is something wrong with Disney when they remake their own movies.
Two Things: 1) It is not Live Action everything is CGI, another form of animation. 2) The movie has not yet been released, this was a trailer, wait for the 2019 before judging. Trailers are not the final animation. The final product will be a much finer product. This was to get the talk started
What’s so special about this? Any kid and their mothers can make a video like this. I look forward to the remake, especially because I was raised with the original. But still, there is nothing special about this comparison. Just a normal comparison. No internet winner or however you call it in the holy book of boredpandaism
I know I'm in the minority (alone maybe?) but I never liked speaking animals, be it in animation or movies. The only exception was the Lion King and I was really surprised. I don't think I'll like it with realistic animals ...
Honestly,I know I'm gonna love the 2019 as much as the 1994 #can'twait
I don't get why they keep calling this live action. It's still animation, there's nothing live about it. They've just changed it from traditional animation to CGI animation. Unless they're using real live animals, it's not live action. And who actually wants a more realistic scene of Mufasa's death???? Who would watch the original and go - 'you know this would be better if it looked realistic' No one! No one would say that!
They're so much out of ideas that they start to remake EVERYTHING?! God damn it, let masterpieces be!
Here is a little fun fact... The Lion King remake cannot be live action without one human in it. The reason Jungle Book was live action was simply cause of one person. MOWGLI!!!!
Well can't we really experience new stories anymore, so we watch re-renders of the same movie?...
I dont know how to feel about this! It will probably have some political s**t, women rights , Scar will be a gay lion...and our childhood memories will be spoiled!
I personally think both are excellent, but I grew up with the 1994 version, and I really love that version.
Saw the trailer to it the other night. Looks pretty darn good and they even got James Earl Jones in it again.
I can't get over the cub's baby belly, when he's being held up, in the newer version. The older version doesn't have that detail drawn in. It's a little thing, but still striking.
At least they didn't destroy one more of our beautiful children stories as they did in many other movies.
i havea little orange tabby cat who is also named simba and i lift him up just like in the lion king everytime the circle of life comes on lol
Okay, so I was talking to my mom and I mentioned the live action Lion King and she asked me what qualifies as live action. Does it just take realistic cgi to be called a ‘Live Action’? Most movies that are called live action have at least one real thing or a person, but I’m pretty sure this was just made in the studio. What do you guys think that the definition of live action should be?
This is perfect! This is the first time fans will get the original, but more modern. Movies are always trying to change things up and to be clever by derailing the original book, etc. I can't wait.
I'm gonna go into it not trying to compare it to the '94 one. Also I'm super excited for whenever we get a trailer with the hyenas, they were always my favorite.
It's like the 1994 version was just a storyboard for the cgi artists.
animated series ..made a good hit in 1994... Now... Real.. series.. Waiting.. Teaser is Good
I never watched the movie on TV, too many advertisments on the private channels that showed it yet, but this is absolutely cute!!!
I'm really interested in, and miss 2D animation, and I still love the original as one of my favourite Disney movies... and I hate that Disney keeps re-making their old films, as besides The Jungle Book they've been pretty pointless. But f**k if I'm not totally going to see this movie anyway.
I ugly cry over that Mufasa scene. I may have to wait to watch this one at home so I can ugly cry in peace lol
Well done, Disney, again! Beauty and the Beast, Christopher Robin, now Lion King! <3 Can't wait for yet another masterpiece! I'm so proud again the company I work at will create dubbing for that!
That was just a waste of time cause the 2019 trailer didn't show much. Either way it is awesome and can't wait to see it
Only thing that really bothers me: the original drawn characters all had a very distinctive individual look to them. One could place Simba and Mufasa side by side and easily tell them apart. But CGI "realistic" Lions look very much the same as each other. Oh well... no matter. I'm looking forward to seeing it and reliving the magic of the first time around.
Shot by shot remake = laziness. I'll pass. If I wanted to see a movie that is purely special effects and CGI of a movie that has already been done, I can honestly make it myself.

Man...what a bunch of purity snobs on here...it's a friggin' kids movie for petes sake!
Wow. That just looks so boring. It says a lot about a movie that the only thing it can do right is remind you of another movie.
