Landlord Tries To Raise Rent Using A Bible Quote, Tenant Shuts Him Down With Her Extensive Law Knowledge
In most countries, there are strict and detailed laws that protect tenants from the greed and unpredictability of landlords. Sadly, many renters are unaware of their legal rights and unwittingly allow themselves to be taken advantage of.

Not Brooklyn-based real estate worker Rachel Bell, however, who used her background in the industry to expertly take down her landlord, who had the cheek to use a verse from the bible to justify a rent rise.
For those who are curious, the verse, Numbers 18:21, goes thus:
“And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.”
Aha! A tenth! Therefore all tenants must pay an extra ten percent. Or something.

Needless to say, Rachel was having none of the landlords’ dastardly Acts and Ruth-lessly proceeded to Chronicle her legal rights and his obligations, including her own cheeky bible reference for good measure.
Good Job on the Revelation Rachel!

Predictably, once caught out for his illegal attempt to raise some extra cash, ‘Brucie Baby’ took the usual cowardly way out, claiming that it was all ‘just a joke’ and Rachel needn’t be ‘so sensitive.’
Good one, Brucie!
Rachel’s post soon went viral on the subreddit r/MurderedByWords, where it has become a major talking point and received over 80k upvotes.
With more young people than ever getting priced out of the market to buy, renting is becoming the default option for many. Learn your rights and protections as a tenant (they can be more comprehensive than you might imagine), and make sure you read that contract properly!
Here’s how people reacted to Rachel’s story

Share on FacebookI love the "you're so sensitive" insult. I've been hit with that one many times and have finally embraced it for the virtue it is. Yeah, sensitive people have actual human feelings and care about others. It's much better than being an insensitive sociopathic bullying a-hole.
:) Great attitude - own it! I disagreed with someone's prejudiced posts on FB (I used messages to keep our discussion more private, then gave up arguing with them.). Six months later, they angrily message me and accuse me of "liberal bias". Well dagnabbit, if I ain't guilty as charged! Where's that special place in hell for folks who judge people by the content of their character? ;)
Load More Replies...Yet another fine human trying to misuse religion to further his own petty agenda.
Hm, I should create my own religion to justify my acts....
Load More Replies...unfortunately there are a lot of people that do not know the law or are afraid that they may "lose their home" if they do not pay this illegal raises. I hope this post helps anyone that truly needs this help.
