Never Leave Your Bed Again With This Awesome Japanese Invention

This is how the Japanese stay warm in the winter, or how you can stay in bed all day! The kotatsu consists of a blanket placed between a low table-frame and table-top, with a heat source positioned underneath the sheet. With your legs placed under the blanket, someone wearing traditional Japanese clothing would have warm air come through the bottom of their robes and exit around the neck, heating the whole body while in this comfortable bed.

The origins of the Japanese heated table can be traced to the 14th-century Japanese irori or cooking hearth. By the 17th century, irori dug into the ground, called hori-gotatsu, resembled a fixed kotatsu. Modern heated bed tables, which are moveable, are referred to as oki-gotatsu. Since most Japanese homes have little insulation and no central heating, kotatsu serves as efficient space heaters during the colder months. And though similar heating devices were, and sometimes are still used in many countries, the kotatsu is thought to be the first contraption of its kind. Also, this ingenious Japanese furniture piece might be a predecessor to floor heating as we know it.

Scroll down to check the kotatsu table and the system below; we sure would want to have these in our homes!

A korsi or korsí (Persian spelling: کرسی) is a type of low table found in Iran, with a heater underneath it, and blankets thrown over it. It is a traditional item of furniture in Iranian culture. A family or other gathering sits on the floor around the "korsi" during meals and special events, like Nowruz (Persian/Zoroastrian New Year's Eve). "Korsi" used to be quite popular for entire families to gather together during yearly Yaldā celebrations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korsi

Well I am glad that at least one of our real Persian ideas to fight the cold winters has taken by the world. Nothing ever can bring a family together more than Korsy ever could. Love the way they have modernized this great idea.

This isn't a new idea. People in Iran have been doing this for hundreds of years. We call it korsi.

Been around for ages in Japan and around the world. Might as well say sushi was invented an hour ago and you were the first one to eat it. Doesn't anyone attempting to write about cultures they don't understand do any research anymore or is it just make s**t up as you go to look like a smartass. Another Buzzfeed. Good for killing time when taking a dump.

Not to be mean but the average apartment in Japan is probably half the size of these beds

Would be handy in winter, but in this household cats would take over and hiss at anyone who'd try and get warm.

Does everyone have one of those square couches? Love them! Want one! But then I'd have to get a living room this big too.

Burning charcoal? That would sure make for a hot time; I like it about 65 F for a comfortable night.

Japanese man, they've already calculated it several times, tested it and ensured that the risk is close to a zero.
