Spanish artist and architect Pablo Valbuena, who’s residing in France, used the structures of temporarily abandoned train station Gare d’Austerlitz for his last project of light and sound, named Kinematope.
The platform of this station is 500 meters long and its structure is supported by pillars that make this place perfect for “direct filmic experience that omits the mediation of the camera,” according to Valbuena. “The observer is transported into a virtual space-time and maintaining at the same time the real, physical bonds of the body with its environment,” explains the artist.
Blinking lights shine faster and faster until leaving everything in absolute darkness, creating ephemeral and spacial effects that deceive the human eye.
