9-Year-Old Applies For Job At NASA, And Here’s How NASA Responds
Upon posting a job opening for “Planetary Protection Officer,” NASA space agency has received countless job applications, but none as original and adorable as the one by Jack Davis, a 9-year-old with all the right qualifications to be a “Guardian of the Galaxy.”
“I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see,” Jack explained in his letter. “I’m great at video games. I am young, so I can learn to think like an Alien.”
Jack’s letter went viral after a family friend posted it on Reddit, and when it eventually reached the space agency, NASA’s director of planetary science division himself engineered a perfect response for Jack on Twitter: “It’s about protecting Earth from tiny microbes when we bring back samples from the Moon, asteroids and Mars. It’s also about protecting other planets and moons from our germs as we responsibly explore the Solar System.”
NASA encouraged Jack and others to study hard and to one day become the real “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

The letter then reached NASA’s director of planetary science division, Dr. James L. Green
And here’s how he replied:
Hopefully, this will encourage Jack and many others to study hard and one day become the real “Guardians of the Galaxy”

Share on FacebookIf he works real hard, and makes good grades, he should be the right age for the first Mars Mission. ;D
I heard they are looking for some oldies to go to mars, i 've posted your details on the NASA website :D
Load More Replies...It is awesome that NASA took the time to respond. Kids should be encouraged and inspired because they should go to school knowing that it has an actual use.
I don't want to be the party pooper here but I'm sure NASA responds to a lot of little boys and girls. This boy's family decided to share it on social media while others don't.
Load More Replies...Is it just me, or is "planetary protection officer" the most kickass job title ever?
Jim Green is my former NASA boss!! It's totally within his character to respond like this and to encourage young minds to continue to reach for the stars!
How beautiful ❤ I'm so pleased that they replied to his letter. It makes all the difference for a little boy or girl to be acknowledged for their interests 👧🏽 👦🏽 📩 ❤
Awesome! Happy to see the adults in amazing careers reach out to the young and encourage such awesome energy.
NASA You have just made a little mans dream start to become a reality. Bless you
Way to go young man, listing all your interests and knowledge. You are going to go far. Just have to pick correct subjects and study hard, and I sure one day soon we will read in the paper that Jack Davis just got hired at NASA, that will be the best day of your life.
Dr. Jim Green is an awesome person. We homeschool and My daughters' science fair experiment was too advanced for the judges to understand completely and they told her they couldn't, therefore, judge it accurately. We sent it to Dr. Green and he was very impressed, He sent her a wonderful letter and hand written note with a "care package" of phenomenal Nasa goodies, CDs and other items. He is extremely encouraging for youth and basically having an award from Nasa was better than any local science fair could give her.
So sweet Jack,,You are real hero and will sure prove your qualities one day....God Bless You Jack.....Study Hard....All The Best...
I love that a busy agency like NASA took the time to respond so positively to this young man. There's no telling what effect their encouraging words will have on him for his future. Kudos NASA!
Good job Jack. That was a wonderful letter! Be sure to study real hard so you'll be ready when you grow up.
Cool beans! Jack Davis, Captain with the Scientific and Defense Fleet of Planet Earth and her Allied Colonies.
I LOVE THIS KID! He watches all the same movies as me, he watches Agents of Shield, he likes aliens. He's so similar to me it's creepy!
My dream is to work at NASA one day and this kid gave me inspiration :)
Jim Green is my former boss at NASA. This is so cool! The photo of the guy on the phone above is NOT James Green though.
Best Wishes to the Little Fella, & Kudos to the Nasa Dr, James L Green, for responding & giving advice & an invitation for the future! Splendid story.
if he works hard and get good grades he would still be paying his student loans
not necessarily? get good enough grades, & there are scholarships, out there. There is also the oportunity, to invent a device/concept etc and get the experience that way. The other way, is to follow the herd, pay for [often substandard but PC] education, and like you said, pay your student loans? Me, I decided to work 5 months unpaid as uncertified Marine Engineer to get seatime neccesary for my Class 4, now I have the Class 1 Chief Engineer Officer, & have sailed at that rank. Guess 1.You takes you money, & you make your choice. 2. You puts your money where your mouth is? 3. You have to be in the game, to win the game.
