On Friday, Jennifer Aniston posted an Instagram story to her 36M followers featuring a Christmas ornament that caused one heck of a stir. The wooden ornament had an engraving in a script font which read “Our first pandemic 2020.” But people on the internet were far from impressed.

“Jennifer please,” read one retweet that was liked 556k times and others were claiming that the ornament was tone-deaf. Some were wondering whether the “Friends” star had any intention of celebrating the pandemic with this bizarre ornament, but others stepped in to defend her.

While the debate on this little piece of decoration is still hot and sizzling, one has to keep in mind that Jennifer put no caption along with the controversial post. Plus, there were no indications whether the ornament really belongs to her. After all, Jen has been an avid advocate of health and safety in times of pandemic, so this is not something that’s typical to her.

Bored Panda reached out to the Twitter user Kaz, who goes by the handle @joaquinsjoker, who said that her first reaction was laughter. “At first, I even thought that it was fake,” she said. Kaz, who retweeted Jen’s now-infamous Instagram story featuring the Covid-themed ornament, wrote in a caption that “I’ve had enough of rich people…” Her tweet was liked 469k times and retweeted almost 70k times.

“I understand that people’s opinions are divided about it. It could’ve been just a satirical joke. I, myself, am a big fan of satire, but it is a total different story when a famous celebrity makes such a joke, someone who is hardly affected by the pandemic.”

Kaz said she believes that rich people have enough money and they don’t have to be afraid of losing their jobs. “They live in their big mansions, unbothered, can still travel and afford whatever’s needed for medical treatment and hygiene.” In contrast, “some people can’t even afford face masks.”

“Making such jokes when you’re in such a privileged position just doesn’t seem appropriate to me. Apart from the fact that it isn’t even our ‘first’ pandemic. What about HIV or Ebola? It just seems ignorant to me.”

Kaz also said that she was surprised how much attention her retweet got and guessed it was all about the timing.
