It’s been 10 years this year since I lay down for the first time.

Here a little reminder what the project is about: The life lasting project was inspired by Snow Patrol’s song “Chasing Cars”. The idea is simple – I lay down wherever and whenever I feel like (well, making sure the composition is good), even if it’s not always legal and take a picture. Carrying around my camera and my small yellow tripod, I’m registering important moments in my life. The focus is not only on capturing places I’ve been to, but also and mostly about changes. I want to document how I change over the years – the color and length of my hair, my body shape, clothes, style (although I’m not really sure I have one). And in this way create an enduring documentary record of my life.

Comfortably resting on a frozen lake in Lapland in March, I did not think it was the first and the last ‘If I lay here’ picture of 2020. Now, I just lie in the hall or in front of my house.

I took one of the most important pictures from this series at the beginning of 2019 in Berlin. Friends and I went there to see Snow Patrol live. Before going, not thinking much about it, I wrote a letter to the band’s record company. I asked if I could meet the band and provided few details and a link to the project’s pictures. You simply cannot imagine how astonished I was reading the reply: “Sure, the boys know your pictures”. Shock! I was so stressed out to meet them though. Why? Don’t ask me! The boys were wonderful! And patient and understanding, because I am “nervous talker” and my mouth simply wouldn’t shut up. Today I would behave more naturally ;-) But one of the most memorable pictures was taken. The first picture with other people…. and not any people, but those who inspired me to start the project. Dreams do come true :-)

Not long after meeting the band my friend and I, in a little fiat Panda, left for an incredible adventure to Mongolia. We took part in Mongol Rally, a charity rally in which the only requirement is to drive a car with a maximum engine capacity of 1.2l. To get there we travelled through 15 countries, drove over 25000 kilometres, met the kindest of people and had unforgettable adventures. So, I am lying in my bed now, recalling a fantastic 2019 and feeling overwhelming gratitude for all that happened to me that year. Despite the fact that this year is the jubilee year, it was last year that was the most significant. I hope that soon it will be possible to go out into the world again.
