40 Random And Fascinating Facts About Our World You Might Not Have Heard Of, By UberFacts
UberFacts says it shares "the most unimportant things you'll never need to know" and I have to admit, that's a pretty accurate description of its content. Launched in 2009, the Internet project provides people with random facts on all kinds of topics.
From the number of janitors in the US with PhDs to the genius way Swedes protested their government classifying homosexuality as an illness, these titbits of information will make you an expert on trivia in no time. So grab yourself some broccoli (random fact: the vegetable is rich in vitamin K, and a few studies in older adults have linked a higher vitamin K intake to better memory), continue scrolling, and upvote your favorite entries!

As it turns out, there are some biological reasons behind people's desire to "store" trivia in their brain and the rush of excitement they feel when they get the chance to use it. According to psychologist John Kounios Ph.D., it's a lot like playing roulette, too.
"You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning," the professor of psychology and director of the doctoral program in applied cognitive and brain sciences at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline. "I think whenever you're challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It's sort of like gambling."
He said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing video games. However, unlike gambling and video games, trivia is generally not a potentially dangerous habit, Kounios said.
"I don't think there are any pitfalls. Like anything else that's fun, it takes up time."
Moreover, retaining information about things we're interested in can be like an exercise for the frontal cortex as the brain ages.
"That's the first thing to go with injury or with age if we don't use it," Deborah Stokes, Ph.D., L.P.C., B.C.N., a psychologist in Virginia who focuses on neurotherapy, said.
So there you have it, folks. Browsing trivia isn't a waste of time. It's a mental workout!
Smart man, too bad most politicians want to hold onto many archaic laws.
Nevermind Trump making me miss Barack Obama, he even makes me pine for the days when GW Bush was in power. George and Michelle's easy-going friendship demonstrates that democrats and republicans are not mortal enemies, as Trump would have you believe. A good leader unites his countrymen, not divides them like der Drumpf.
I like that he was that confident in his ability to turn her off that he took his stalker out to dinner
Not calling out either side here because i completely support peoples right to protest. But 7% of thousands of protests can still do quite a lot of damage and at least 25 people have died from protests / political unrest.
If dreams are that medically reliable, the evil purple minion inside me should be born soon
Trump is an idiot.......Wow who the F**K knew? Damn this honesty just spills out of my mouth.....
There are more terrorist attacks/threats on US home soil than terrorist threats/attacks from other countries. This is why their gun laws are pathetic, you are more likely to be accidentally shot by your own gun than by a terrorist from another country.
Goes to show that just because someone is a janitor doesn’t mean they aren’t educated and also just because you have a PHD doesn’t mean you will get a job in that field. I am curious to know how many refugees also have PHD’s that aren’t recognised in their new home.
Honestly, I can't decide whether Earth would be better or worse without humans. Humans pollute the Earth insanely, and nature would thrive better if humans had never existed. But humans are also helping with overpopulation of certain animals (not that I like the idea of animals being killed on a daily basis). And I'm just now realising this comment is kind of off topic
Humans need food, water, etc and if all those are extinct what makes you think humans would survive? We are the instruments of our own extinction.
Load More Replies...Maybe that is the real reason for COVID-19. Nature is mad as hell, and She's not taking any more crap from humanity.
Interesting name. You are nature, and you can be as enraged or as celebratory as you choose to be.
Load More Replies...Like George Carlin always said, "the earth will shake us off like a bad case of fleas. A surface nuisance". (Global Warming on YouTube).
Sad but true. That’s why we MUST address global warming now, and with a massive effort. We are already at a point of no return, but maybe we can slow the warming enough to adapt and survive as a species.
That's why I'm not worried about the earth. We may create an atmosphere to toxic to sustain our lives, but the earth will keep right on spinning.
About time. I'd call it a day for the planet to have a do over but history kinda points the fact humans are selfish after 5 tries.
Can't wait for us to be nonexistant. It may hurt you people but the truth is we're Plague for both this Precious Earth and Innocent Animals
The good news is that we're only a plague as long as we decide to be one. Hopefully, if we as a people can make changes, then we can help repair what we've broke
Load More Replies...I hope it's people who go extinct, the earth would be better without us.
At least TRump will be in the history books for something more than the worlds worst president.
Not surprising. But it will take a long time, although I believe it will happen sooner and more quickly than any previous extinction.
I mean, if a species goes extinct, it goes extinct, and the rate of extinction is accelerating. You can't just say something isn't true because you don't like it. Children do that, but adults don't.

I too, am hated because of my superior plumbing skills 😞. I feel you Mario.
An accurate description for all of Bored Panda, really.
Load More Replies...I hate it when I get a notification that someone replied to my post only for BoredPanda to make it impossible to find (I've refreshed this page several times and I still can't see comments where I KNOW I made them... Although usually it's because the thing I commented on has been cut from the page - which would seem to happen at different times in different places since I can still get upvotes on things I said that are no longer visible to myself...?)
I use the desktop version too & the only way I find a comment is to look at the picture & scroll thru post to find

When open floor plans at offices became "normal," I knew I'd have to quit office life for good.
Load More Replies...What happened to all the posts? first there was over 100, then it was reduced to 95 and now it is 85.
Maybe posts that were revealed to not actually be "facts" were removed? (I only read them now, though, so I don't know what posts disappeared.)
Load More Replies...The man who developped the BMI was a statistician, and statistician are heavily involved in all part of sciences and even more in medicine. Every clinical study to get a new drug on the market involved a lot of statistics. To dismiss Quetelet's work because he was not a doctor of medicine shows a misunderstanding of how science works. He was working on obesity and population growth and developped this index as a growth marker, not an health marker. It was adopted as an health marker years after some studies in the 60's showed its reliability.
Load More Replies...Why does so many complainers say left or left leaning? You realize that you have no idea what you are talking about?
