All of us, at one point or another, have dreamt about finding a lost treasure box filled with excellent antique rarities that will provide us with an infinite fortune. Such wishes come and go, but some people still manage to find a real lost treasure in the most unexpected places. Of course, to each one their definition of a cache is unique, so our list includes such interesting things as ancient Viking swords, gemstones, and coins, as well as a nest of adorable baby bunnies. After all, aren't cute baby animals an unexpected treasure?
And much like with love, the most significant discoveries on our list were made when people stopped looking for them. You could spend all day dragging a metal detector across the beach, but often it is the person taking a casual stroll that happens upon the coolest stuff. At least the people on the list below would probably agree with this philosophy; each one found their own finders keepers at the most random times and in some very odd places.

I suspect that they are cottontails, the only rabbit species that does not burrow. Other than cottontails all rabbits nest underground. All hare species nest above ground too: it has me wondering now where cottontails are on the Lepidorae phylogenetic tree - I shall go off and be a biological nerd!

This appears to be an example of cristation, or fasciation, where a point-shaped apical meristem becomes elongated along an axis perpendicular to the normal direction of growth. The colloquial term for the phenomenon is 'cresting'.

Nokia!!!! And it probably still works. I had one that got throw out if my car during a major accident. It soldiered on for two years after. I loved those phones.

Looks like my first phone(not exactly a classic brick Nokia, it is with rounder edges, just like the one shown). 7 years of loyal service before I retired it. It will still work if I recharged it and put its card back in place. A friend owned a classic Nokia he accidentally dropped from the 8th floor. It was all fine. I now have a Samsung with buttons that, much like a Nokia seems absolutely waterproof and, when dropped, just disassembles, so its pieces can be put back together and it still works. That's how phones should be made, not like those garbages most people own these days. They only work properly for like 2 years(if you don't chatter them to pieces by then) and must be recharged every day or two. Just, why? Why do people even buy them?

Stones with natural holes in them are called witch stones or hag tones or adder stones - amongst many other names. They are considered by many cultures to have magical properties, including the capacity to allow one to see the fey world when looking through the hole. It's deliciously appropriate that this is shaped like a ghost!

I recently cleared out the crawl space in my father's attic after he passed away. I found a box with carpet pad remnants in it. At the bottom of the box, was a newspaper from 1942! My father was only 10 years old. He didn't buy the house until 1970. That box had been there for a very long time!

Back in the late 80's I shared an old Victorian home in Atlanta with three friends. A large portion of the basement was walled off. We just had to explore it though. We found an old roulette wheel, a craps table, two steamer cases filled with women's boudoir clothes, and a box filled with bottles that looked and smelled like they had some sort of alcohol in them. One of my roommates and I did some research on the home and learned that it had been a speakeasy, gambling house and brothel during Prohibition. We also found a carpet bag that had all sorts of men's toiletries. One item in there was a small tin that had some sort of greasy gel in it. the name on the front said "Green's Hair Food for Men". There was also a comb and mirror set in the bag.

I was contacted through ancestry.com by a man whose son-in-law owns a used car lot in NH and found my uncle’s prayer book while cleaning out a recent acquisition for sale. Knowing his father-in-law is a WWII buff, he gave it to him, and the FIL tracked down my uncle’s name--and then me--on Ancestry. He sent it to me in NJ, and I gave it to my cousin in NY. Now he’s got a great memento of his dad’s service, and our grandmother, who gave it to him. book-5bc4a...13f2c1.jpg

IT WAS AMAZING. OUR STREET IS BUSY. PEDESTRIANS AND TRAFFIC. WE HAD RAIN THAT NITE. THE DIVIDER WAS NOT DESTROYED. WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIDEWALK AND STRETCHED OUT. NO ONE HAD STEPPED ON IT AND I HAD WALKED THAT ROUTE THREE TIMES THAT DAY AND DID NOT SEE IT. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MESS AND DESTROYED. IT HAPPENED INTERESTING OR NOT. I WAS IN AWE. I ADMIT I HAVE TERRIBLE EYESITE BUT REALLY.

I found it all to be fascinating! A few commenters explained things so well that some of us were able to learn more about the items! Some were funny (I added a bit of my own silliness) and nothing is wrong with a sense of humor. I GOT THIS MISSAL DIVIDER AND LOST IT ON THE WAY HOME FROM MASS. I SAID A PRAYER. IT WAS A RAINY NITE AND I DID NOT FIND IT. SO I WENT TO CHURCH THE NEXT DAY TO SAY A PRAYER AS I DO EVERY DAY AND WHEN I WALKED HOME ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF MY BUILDING LAID OUT ON THE SIDEWALK WAS THE DIVIDER. I WISH I TOOK A PIX WITH MY PHONE BEFORE I MOVED IT. I FEEL THAT POSING THE DIVIDER IS NOT THE SAME. ANYWAY THE PRAYER WORKED AND IT WAS PERFECT. NO DAMAGE FROM THE BAD WEATHER I WALKED TO CHURCH AND DID NOT FIND IT UNTIL I WAS WALKING BACK. OUR STREET IS WELL TRAVELED BY PEDESTRIAN AND I WAS AMAZED IT WAS LAID OUT ON THE SIDEWALK SO NEATLY.
