The process of taking something apart to understand how it works is called reverse engineering, and there are many reasons why someone (or a company) might do it.
You can reverse engineer consumer products, software, mechanical parts, pieces of technology, or even architectural structures.
When companies employ this practice, engineers usually do it without the original blueprints. While there are many ways to reverse engineer a product, a popular method is to take apart a smaller part of a product and analyze it until you get a thorough understanding of it.

You can deconstruct (and reconstruct) things in many different areas. Jazz musicians can take apart a song and put the ideas together in a new improvisation of the original. Writers might look at a well-known story and retell it in a new, fresh way.
The musical West Side Story, for example, was based on the storyline from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, and James Joyce’s Ulysses is a modern-day retelling of The Odyssey by Homer.

If I'm not wrong, these vessels are used to store and transport water. It's called xylem and it's present in every plant, but it's stronger and larger in cacti because of dry climate.
In business, updating older products for current use is also one of the main reasons why people turn to reverse engineering. It could include rebuilding:
- An old or outdated product;
- An expensive product using cheaper or more readily available materials;
- A product that uses mechanical parts that no longer exist;
- Another company's product to learn about it;
- Reverse engineering helps engineers understand the product's function, which they can use to create an effective updated version that still meets user requirements.

Reverse engineering can also help repair products that are already on the market. This process can be especially helpful if nobody is sure what's causing the issue. Engineers may also take these products apart to see if there are any ways to fix them or improve functionality with new technology or smarter design. For example, a company may learn that newly available technology can help improve glitching issues within a software application. Through the reverse engineering process, they may also learn that there's a more efficient way to create the product.

As writer Eric Braun pointed out, deconstruction also plays a part in teaching something to someone else. In order to pass down the knowledge, you need to understand its components and how they fit together. This comes from focused learning on each aspect of the topic. If a student does not understand something and has a question, the teacher will not be able to convey the topic if they cannot answer it.

The Inside Of A Fire Alarm Is Just A Simple Switch
I think the point here is to be consistent - older alarm switches would have pulled a heavier or more complex mechanism, the alarm switch has to remain easily identifiable however so while the technology got simpler the switch itself needs to stay the same.

Load More Replies...Those bags of syrup are heavy! I used to change those at the movie theater when I was 19.
Oooooo - that brought back 25 year old memories! I can smell that room!
Quick tip: the lines connecting the syrup to the carbonation unit are almost never cleaned unless you have a manager who is absolutely about doing it by the book. It takes forever to do it properly.
Gen X here. I used to wrestle 2 foot tall steel canisters for the syrups in the 80s at McDonalds. Those look light by comparison.
Changed a lot of these over the years I worked in a restaurant the smell of that sugary syrup though, yuck!
Reminds me of a Futurama episode where the #1 drink was made from the excrement of an alien for Ma's corporation.
I thought this was pretty common knowledge... who didn't work in ANY food service gig growing up?
Europeans just to give an example. We have more restaurants and bars than in the USA where you are more used to eat and work at fast food chains I think
Load More Replies...I hate those freaking boxes!! They weigh like 50 pounds each!! it seems that every time that I have to change one of the beverages itās the box on the top shelf!!
Just think most employees ket those hose fall on the floor while changing. You have been warned
That's why you should avoid taking fountain sodas in restaurants. As the sugar from these boxes accumulates in the red neck of the fountains, it must be cleaned with really hot water. But SURPRISE! Not all restaurants do! š£šš¤¢
I let you know when I find a restaurant that does clean them.
Load More Replies...They used to be metal canisters. I hope this is less painful to deal with.
I have changed out scores of these. Preferred the diet versions because sugar weighs waaay more! Also sanitized them, which was per *x* number of boxes. To change out you just remove safety cap on new box and screw on the hose, after switching boxes. Not fun trying to do so without first nesting new box in its spot.
Back in 1983-84, I worked for a Taco Bell, and McDonald's. We had these Huge air tanks, and canisters for pop. They weighed up to 50 pounds each! Whenever, I was asked to change them out, I hated it! They were pressurized too! I had the hardest time hooking them up ...
Horrible things, really heavy and if the seal goes it's a nasty sticky mess
All come in plastic airlocked bags in boxes like boxed wine.... not even barrels like pub beer
Yup, this is legit. I worked concessions a few times at Lambeu Field. Much less variety though.
It's hooked with a large large carbonated water tank. So they go in together. This is just very thick syrup.
The "freestyle" coke ones have the syrup concentrate packaged in plastic canisters. It's like replacing an ink cartridge in a printer.
They are so heavy to put on the top and annoying to open, also sticky
If you peek in the drive through windows you can sometimes see these.
Better than the big metal canisters they used to have. That was a chore.
I've changed these out before. This makes me wonder how those new Coke machines work with so many flavors and no way for the tubes to get back to an area like this.
