There‘s no doubt that most of us know that feeling when you suddenly catch yourself questioning your life choices while scrolling through Instagram photos... All those social media influencers and their perfect everyday life moments that they share with the world can sometimes be too much to handle, but are those beautiful photos really true?
Geraldine West, a German woman living in Cologne, recently started this photo series called "Instagram vs. Reality" where she takes side-by-side pictures of herself that portray the same situations in real life and how they would look on social media. From taking a bath to traveling, Geraldine shows how ridiculous it all actually is and what unrealistic expectations it gives us, so scroll down to see them all for yourself!

Oh yes, somehow you always end up having to heave twice as much luggage as you wanted onto a train!
I don't even understand this instagram shot. Who blows bubbles and poses like that at a laundromat?
Looks like the comments people expect and the comments that i'd give you. Still, i'll prefer a huge bag of onion rings to a darn flower.
On every add, article, blog... salades and raw vegetables make people laugh. They must be fun somehow.

My immediate and only thought is "Damn, that plate must have been heavy"
The more I look at these the more they remind me of those infomercials exaggerating the difference between other products and those unnecessary as-seen-on-TV products.
It seems that there is an insta conspiration to make us adopt a pineapple, maybe even a support pineapple.
I feel like some of the reality-pics are as staged and unreal as the instagram-versions...
LOVE people with a good sense of humor. All too rare and a precious character trait. Too adorable.
Love this entire post to end!! It compares the wishy-washiness that the media so lamely posts and how i see people. But i get that everything goes for a 'like' or to feel accepted by random strangers, right??
Lol! Love the send up of the insta photos. The originals are gross...looks like a 30 yr old trying to infantilize herself for sponsorship and likes. I love the people that mock these lifestyle photos!
I don't think most of them are realistic..... just exaggerated .... but thanks for the effort! :)
What's people's thing with all those Insta-whores in the 1st place anyway? What were people doing before that?
