As a kid of the 80's, dragons have always inspired me. Whether it was through movies, video games or dungeons, and dragons, these mythical beasts had an influence on my imagination. With this series of drawings, I wanted to show a different side of the animal.
Often dragons are depicted as villainous, treasure hoarding monsters but I wanted to break past the stereotypes and delve into the different personalities of each character. As far as the styling of the drawings themselves, I wanted to go for an old fashioned look of classic illustration, maybe even having a feel that they were sketched from life in some explorer's journal.

I have always imagined dragons to be sweet, shy, wise creatures that are greatly misunderstood.
I love that you are trying to break the stereotype. I myself hate the stereotype as well.
I love these. Would it be possible to get prints? Number 2 would look great in my office
I play DRAGONVALE for the last 14 months! I have 293 dragons....love it and this! I own a set, (3/4) of "dragon vs knight drawings...I adore them. One Manatee Revenge, and the Lost Firefighters!!! (retired) I guess that makes me a fan! 😁
I really enjoyed these!--as well as many of the posts--there are worse ways to waste 30 minutes. (alliteration was unintentional--but somewhere out there is a dragon who would appreciate it!!!)
This is beautiful. Dragons have always held a special place in my heart, especially the sweet ones!
great drowing style. I'd love to see those dragons in books telling their stories
I find this article heading a bit self indulgent - like the stereotyping of a mythical creature is a concern which needs to be addressed?? Anyway - they are not stereotyped - what about "Pete's dragon", "Puff the magic dragon" , "Toothless" in How to Train your Dragon, "Falkor" in Neverending story, "Dudley the Dragon", "Digby Dragon", "HR Pufnstuf"........
You might consider putting your delightful dragons in a book. I know my grandchildren (as well as me) would love it.
I'm not normally a dragon fan, but these are amazing! Great job OP!
I'M in love!!! Seriously!! I think my mind want's to create a story for all of them!!! Wow!!!
I didn't even have to check your social issues subcategory, I could already see how this would play out based on the first couple images. Lots of images of soft, fun, or goofy things but I count only 1 or 2 that depict battle, courage, or loyalty. you should do another series where a sexist misogynist dragon king won't let his daughter compete in the contest for succession, only for her to bravely triumph over her clearly physically stronger and more agile dragon-brothers. Shatter those stereotypes!
I love these pictures. As a dragon collector been telling people they are good and misrepresented. Thank you
I dont care if they are viscous, aggressive, greedy, etc! They are amazing, magical and magnificent and I f*****g love them! Some people are crazy for Unicorns, I been feeling like that towards Dragons since I was a toddler- was born in the year of the Dragon and my grandma gave me a tiny smiling Dragon toy, which I safe-keep until today! <3
These are brilliant! I also grew up in the 80's and around 1986 I created the Guild of Dragons for this very same purpose :) I'm glad I am not alone in this quest!
Awesome! I draw them in a similar way, same long snouts and weird situations... I just draw bigger wings.
Maybe your talents would be better employed by drawing Muslims to destroy the stereotypes about them; or Queer & Trans folk, or pretty much any reviled category for which there is a corresponding, i.e., actually existing, referent. I mean, I get it (not really): yay dragons. But that's a little flippant, given the current geopolitical climate—which, ironically, is also heating up. At the risk of coming off as somewhat troll-ish (I'm not; I'm a Sociologist...unless that's the same thing on the interwebs), while this is very 80's cute, it is, again given the world we live in and the relative ease with which many in the West/Global North access information about that world, and the ethical imperatives implied by that relative level of awareness, this is objectively and categorically useless.
