I Painted With Coffee From 100+ Cups For A Coffee Festival In Sydney
I was recently commissioned by the Rocks Sydney to create a painting for the annual Coffee festival, so I decided to do this painting with coffee. This was the first time trying this and it’s been a whirlwind ride to get it all to work but thankfully it came together ok.
I put together a short 4 minute video on Youtube to finish creation of this artwork, titled “Inkredible Coffee – James Patrick”. Thanks for all your previous comments and support guys, it’s hard as an artist to live of this so social media helps loads in landing new gigs :)

I started the Painting on Sydney Harbour
The first part of the project I did Live at Sydney Harbour near the Harbour Bridge and Opera house. It is a really busy area so it was interesting to chat with people about their opinions and what I should include in the painting.
Me attempting to focus!
Once in the “zone” it’s ok. I must admit – without earphones in, it is always much harder doing it in public places. The music helps to block everything out.
Not as easy to move around as with paint, but still fun!
The hardest part was stopping the coffee from dripping, it has more weight than watercolor paint so it took some experimenting to figure it out.
Slowly making some progress
Painting inside was good as I didn’t need to worry about the weather, wind, rain etc. and could paint late. The actual event: Aroma Festival has 100,000 people pass through the Rocks so on the day I did feel like a monkey in a zoo!
I hid 11 coffee mugs within the painting, Invited people in to try find them
This was fun, we put up a little video of this also on Youtube.
I used 100+ cups of coffee for the final painting
Like most artworks, there is still some areas I want to tweak and work on in my studio but this was the final result we got to for the Coffee Festival day – and it was awesome to meet so many people.
Hope you enjoyed checking out the artwork and progress and feel free to comment or message me if you have any questions :)
