Well sometimes if you are on a walk and you pass a grocery store, you might want to pop in to buy an item or two.

I can kinda answer this, I know you don’t mean the people ‘who happen to be walking a dog by a grocery store’ you mean the people who think it’s ok to take their pet dog anywhere they go for no particular reason. though it’ll be a massively unpopular opinion, people are getting way too entitled with what they think they can do with pets, particularly dogs, there’s a recent rise in having to tell people in bars at work that they can’t just bring their dog inside etc, it’s annoying having to explain why a bar with an a joining restaurant can’t have a dog inside then there’s people like my mums wife, she wouldn’t spend Xmas with my sister and the grandkids cos my sister said she could bring her dog, but it wouldn’t be coming inside (my sister has a dog also and has a good backyard setup for dogs and the kids play out there all the time, so it’s not like it was gonna be miserable outside). My bf brought peep peep into one pub I worked at, no restaurant, and even though it was a small country pub where everyone knew my family etc, I was freaking out and had to finish early cos I couldn’t handle the people who wanted to come and touch my duck, never bringing an animal to a social venue ever again 😂 she had fun, I had massive anxiety out of fear for her safety like a human parent

I wouldn't leave my dog in somebody's backyard either. If the dog (clean, parasite-free, vaccinated and well-behaved) can't come in and sleep in a corner without annoying anyone, I won't go, either.

That is just my case but my dog never learnt to be alone. She is a COVID puppy, Born during our lockdowns so she isn't used to be alone a long time. We are working on it and meanwhile I do the shopping when someone is at home and takes care of her. But if I would live alone I wouldn't have a choice so this is why in some cases.

Some rescue animals find it very difficult to be left alone. My friend has a lovely German Shepard who she rescued and this dog will literally destroy everything around her in order to make her way to the highway to go look for her owner if she gets left behind. 🤣🤣🤣 I have had to babysit her when my friend had to go somewhere overnight and she almost got out anyway. Her love is unbelievable!!!

Empathy, try to think of reasons a person would take a pet with them or why they wouldn't want to do what you suggested. Think from the dog's point of view

I live in Germany, and dogs are actually not allowed inside most shops here, ESPECIALLY not food stores. People either leave them at home or leash them somewhere near the store entrance, and it's been like that for as long as anyone can remember - just standard practice.

I see it from the perspective of people who are allergic to or afraid of dogs, and also from my own perspective, which is that of someone who absolutely loves dogs but knows that not all of them are well trained.

Try to think of people out and about, kids and adults, a lot who would have fur allergies. No one thinks of them with this stuff. I’m not allergic but I would never bring a dog in shops, I’d feel like s**t if someone started reacting just because I felt bad my dog couldn’t alone for 30 minutes

I agree! I used to have a friend like that. She actually said she knew what it was like to have children because she has dogs. It may be comparable in certain aspects but it’s completely different

As a mother of two and a dog owner, yes it's different but honestly not by much lol I'd fight to defend my kids and I'd fight to defend my pup.

my sister hates kids so much she threw a party when she got cervical cancer, cause they HAD to give her a hysterectomy, Be fore that our mom was always asking her to go have "grandkids"} and she has TONS OF FURRY BABIES, Im adopted, I would rather parents not have Kids, Take in the ones that's lost right now, and let the ones that have none, or like people like ME THAT HATE KIDS SO MUCH or my sis that loves babies but hates toddlers and kids and only has fuzzy babies. . . . . . . . However you sound like the kind of person who would for sure make girls that are "forced" to keep the baby, and then not help at all, or you pressure females into making them think they exist only to make kids

Some pups have anxiety especially if they're new to the family and don't want to be left at home. If they're well behaved and owners clean up after them I don't see the problem. I've seen way more kids in public be terrors than dogs.

Also, people aren’t always smart enough to read and understand their own dog’s mood, temperament, and behavior. Some dogs get very anxious in certain settings and can potentially cause a dangerous situation
