Say you are Daenerys Targaryen and you have the responsibility of saving Westeros, one kingdom at a time. While doing so, you also have three moody dragons in your care, which some days treat you as mommy dearest, while other times spit flames in your direction. Did we mention the countless suitors knocking on your door, not letting you take over the world in peace?

Well, if that’s the case, you deserve a break! Since there’s plenty of time until the next season of GoT, we’ve put together a list where characters such as Daenerys could take well-deserved vacations, far from the madding (sometimes even mad!) crowd. And since we know that you can’t really travel to Westeros, we chose real-life destinations, which you can try yourself when you need to vanish for a while.

Each location is associated with a Game of Thrones character, so you can take a pick depending on your favorites:

You May Also Like:

Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, Iceland ⇾ Jon Snow

This would be the perfect location for Jon Snow, since we often see him wearing a massive fur cloak on his shoulders. He also spent quite a while at Castle Black, known for its unfriendly surroundings, so he must be familiar with damp and dark surroundings.

Situated in the Westfjords, Hornstrandir is Iceland’s northernmost peninsula. Although it is hard to reach, it is definitely worth it, thanks to its remote, pristine meadows and breathtaking peaks.

Furthermore, Iceland is actually one of the locations Game of Thrones was filmed in, so it shouldn’t really be that difficult for Jon Snow to get there, should it?

Dracula’s Castle, Romania ⇾ Night’s King

Quite a spooky, yet very private destination. This is where we would send Night’s King, our friendly-looking leader of the White Walkers.

Strategically located on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, the home of the title character in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Dracula’s Castle is a centuries-old fortified position.

So our dear White Walker would definitely be safe from unwanted prying eyes of the living or Jon Snow’s Valyrian steel sword here and he could also ponder on his army’s next move.

Ghost Town of Bhangarh, Rajasthan, India ⇾ Joffrey

Since we imagine that he’s now annoying ghosts with his arrogant attitude, this is where we would send the late King Joffrey.

Regarded as India’s most haunted place and probably one of the spookiest in the world, Bhangarh Fort cannot be visited once the sun sets. Those who break this rule are said to never return. Which is more than we could wish for mommy’s dearest, Joffrey!

Easter Islands, Chile ⇾ Daenerys and her dragons

Easter Islands got us thinking about Daenerys and her dragons, since it sounds like the perfect site for a (dragon) egg hunt.

Home to the famous moai, the monumental statues created by the Rapa Nui people (or by… ancient aliens? But that’s a different show, we’ll get to that in another article), the Easter Island is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world.

So quite the perfect place for Daenerys to lie on the grass, pet her fire-breathing babies and contemplate her next move.

Wolfe Creek Crater, Australia ⇾ Bran and his direwolf, Summer

This would be the ideal destination for Bran and his direwolf, Summer (which unfortunately passed away in season 6, but a character coming back from the dead is not uncommon in GoT; we’re talking about you, Jon Snow, if you’re reading this!).

A well-preserved meteorite impact crater, dating since Pleistocene, Wolfe Creek Crater only came to the attention of scientists in 1947.

It has been and still is the inspiration for numerous stories, so it could perhaps inspire Bran in his next premonitory dreams.

Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska ⇾ Tormund Thunderfist

Tormund Thunderfist, the wildling chieftain, might feel at home in this wildlife refuge (pun intended!). He could also courteously invite Lady Brienne to join him, who knows what all that adrenaline could sparkle between them!

Established to conserve fish, wildlife populations and habitats, Togiak is said to be no home for humans, but this should be no problem for Tormund.

It’s a pleasure to visit and discover, thanks to its myriad of diverse landscapes, so it could surely be a romantic getaway for him and Brienne.

Ko Khai, Thailand ⇾ Sansa Stark

Considering what she’s been through, this is where we would send Sansa Stark. She seems to need some time off on an exotic and faraway island.

Only 30 minutes away from Phuket, but quite difficult to get to, Ko Khai is a must-see, thanks to its amazing scenery.

We can actually envision Sansa on the golden beach, together with a big bottle of SPF 100 sunscreen to protect her fair skin from the tropical sun.

Amazon Rainforest, Brazil ⇾ Arya Stark

Arya Stark, with her Amazon-like behavior, could easily choose the Amazon Rainforest as the perfect hideaway. Needle, her favored sword and trusted ally, could accompany her in her quest to the heart of the forest.

Spread across 9 countries, among which Brazil, Peru and Colombia, Amazonia is quite the place to get lost in, while discovering the most biodiverse tract of tropical rainforest in the world and while also encountering some “friendly” natives.

Nothing to worry about for daring Arya, though!
