I Use Old Lenses And Photoshop To Create Portraits That Looks Like They Are From 1880

I always loved the look of Wet Plate Collodion, one of the first technic to take photographies, but this chemical technic from the 1880’s is very difficult to master, it’s toxic, and very expensive, so i wanted to try to reproduce the look of those old photo plates with modern camera and modern models.

I also used to make some experiments with very old lenses from 1880 and older to get the same kind of image, and then using photoshop layers, I managed to get a very similar look to the original Collodion images.

It took me months to get the good combination of process to get the right effect.

Other than the toning, these look nothing like collodion wet plate images. They're fine as portraits though. Unless you have a digital camera with the front filter on the sensor removed, to pick up UV light, it is impossible to match the spectral response of collodion with a digital camera.

I was thinking the same thing. The lighting is just too natural for an older photograph.

What a nice piece of info! I even read it twice in order to remember all the details connected with digital image editing. Though friends recommended me to trust my photo works to one photo editing service, if I am not mistaken that it is fixthephoto or lavalu, I tend to do shot editing and especially high end retouching by myself only.
