I made this photographic series called “Night at the airport” because every time I have a layover at the airports during the night, or the day sometimes, I see people sleeping, reading, playing games on their telephones and I’m wondering where they’re going to and where do they come from; if it’s a business trip, they are going to see their families, or just travelling the world. I always wanted to capture them with my camera, but I didn’t have the opportunity. Until now.
It took me almost an entire night to have the best shots, because I didn’t want to wake them up, entering into their privacy or being noticed.
I wanted to show what activities exist in an airport during the night and how those who have a very early flight and do not have a bus, subway, or another way to arrive in time, stay there, sleeping in the uncomfortable chairs and benches from the airport.
This is also an alarm for the airports administrations to make more comfortable benches, even tiny rooms with some sort of beds where people can rest in calm and comfort. And also, it’s really necessary a room where we can put the luggage in safety. During the night, in an airport there are a lot of activities which can ruin your mood and your sleep. Like a deconstruction of a bank office, or cleaning machines, people who move furniture and so on. At least, this is happening in the European airports I have been.
Note: It wasn’t my intention to laugh at them and show their intimate moments without consent, I have explained in the text what it is about with the project. If a person disagrees with a photography, can sent me an email.
Lots of love.
Deconstructing a bank office.
A man is gathering the former poster from a bank office at 4 am, right to the place where I was trying to have some sleep.
Fatigue and impatience
No flight during nighttime.
Shifts. Two stewards are going home, while a cleaning women and a guardian are working during the night.
A few minutes ago, before the last flights take off, the airport was full of travelers.
Moving furniture at 3 am.
