My name is Jamie and I'm obsessed with carving Pumpkins, here are some of my most recent Pumpkin carvings.
This style of carving is called shading, some people call it etching - either way, this technique involves shaving parts of the Pumpkin to different depths allowing varying amounts of light through to make the design.
Each of the below Pumpkins has taken anything from 8 to 20 hours to carve. Most are carved on real Pumpkins, however, I also make carvable foam Pumpkins that I can carve all year round.
Over the years I've spent thousands of hours practicing and refining my technique, but the principle is a fairly simple one, carve deeper on the areas you want brighter and blend backward to the darker areas.
I have several video tutorials on my youtube channel for anyone wanting to try this.
