I Photographed The Memorial Day Of Circassian Genocide In My Hometown
21 of May 1864 marked the end of the 101 years Russian Empire’s conquest of Circassia. The Circassian Nation who legendary stood for freedom was totally destroyed with almost half were dead, and the most of the rest had been deported, where half of them died from famine, epidemics, cold and drowning in the Black Sea during the process. As a result of this Genocide only 5% of what was once the biggest nation of Caucasus remained in their homeland.
Circassians together in homeland and diaspora remark this day to remember there ancestors who fought for freedom.
