The unofficial Car-Free Day in Bucharest. Yes, the romanian capital doesn’t have one, but if you want to see how would it look like, it’s on the 1st of January.
Well, yes, at 8 AM there are still some cars, but more buses than taxis, more taxis than vehicles and just a bunch of people on the streets (* Bucharest has a population of a about 2 millions).
There are many facts that are driving to this emptiness, but it’s definitely an amazing feeling. Or maybe it’s not, could be also a futuristic view over a time when almost all the people emigrated or just died because of . I don’t know, call it however you want.
Back there, I see this as a teaser for a Car-Free Day in this city* that took no measures to reduce air pollution. A lot of towns in the U.S. have a No Car Day, while some E.U. capitals have one at least once a year, even combined with mutiple daily measures to discourage car traffic. Jakarta, for example, hosts Car Free-Day weekly, every Sunday morning.
Call ended. Enjoy!
*I mention that Bucharest has the Europe’s most congested traffic and sometimes a pollution level of over 900% in fine particles in supension
