Our family of 13 LOVES to take road trips! This past summer, we ventured north to Montana for some camping, fishing, and time in the great outdoors.
One of our side trips found us in the ghost town of Bannack. Full of spooky old buildings, it was the perfect place for an impromptu photo shoot with my 7 year old daughter, Octavia. I always travel with picture clothes just in case, because you never know what you might find on your travels. We grabbed this period dress and my camera and went exploring.
Stepping into the old school house and Hotel Meade was truly like stepping back in time. It was an eerie feeling shooting in the window light of these long forgotten structures. At one point, she and I were alone in the old hotel when we heard a door slam upstairs and then heavy foot steps going down the empty hallway. It was unnerving, to say the least!
I call this series ‘Left Behind.’ Octavia did an admirable job of portraying a little girl of that long forgotten era. I was going for a haunting feeling with these images – as though you were catching a glimpse of a ghost from the past.
