In today’s age of cellphones, artists don’t always get the best images to work with for their paintings. As a pet portrait artist, I think it is especially true.

Let’s face it, the vast majority of the photos we have of our beloved fur babies are going to be from our phones. Since this format doesn’t always yield the highest quality image, it can be frustrating to find out that your favorite pictures are too blurry, too dark, or in less than ideal scenery. Or, more times than not, you can’t get all of your animals to pose together in one photo. This is where I can come in and get a bit creative.

With my hand-painted pet portraits, I try to clean up the image, bring in any lost detail, and sometimes change up the scene entirely to create the perfect composition. But most importantly, I aim to capture the spirit and essence of my subjects on canvas.
