I Made A Vinyl Toy To Raise Awareness Of Ocean Pollution

I’m excited to share my first toy project “SpongeBoy Trashpants” to bring awareness to ocean pollution.

SpongeBoy is inspired by the unfortunate marine life that’s drowning in an ocean of plastic. It may look like the typical anatomy toy, but it shows the commonly ingested ocean trash – fishnets, plastic bags, and straws, etc. Unaware of the danger he’s facing, our carefree SpongeBoy continues to contribute to the pollution…

This 6-inch toy will be launching on Kickstarter on 1 June 2021, running for a month. Upon funding, partial proceeds will go towards an ocean conservation fund.

A little about myself, I’m Dale Lam, an art director/designer from Singapore who’ve recently started my own toy brand Quit Quitting, with SpongeBoy being the first of many to come.

Living in an island city, I’ve always been in love with the ocean and wanted to do something about the ocean’s pollution.

In recent years, I’ve discovered a love for vinyl toys and how they can be used to convey messages, beyond being just an art piece. Bridging the two ideas together was how it all started.

Would have been nice to use actual recycled items to make a stronger statement but interesting idea
