I Created A Series Of Self-Portraits Using My Hands To Represent Different Emotions Of Depression
I’m Mike Alegado, a fine art and conceptual photographer in Philippines. I myself have been battling depression and it comes and goes without warning. I can safely say that it hasn’t turned into anything severe by knowing how to deal with depression.
I created this series because I wanted to make a visual representation of the different feelings that I went through with depression. Making these images gave me a sense of release and a reminder to keep fighting. These are self portraits using my hands as subjects depicting the overwhelming emotions of loneliness, sadness, pain and longing that usually comes with people who suffer from depression.
Help me
What’s a good day?
From behind the ice
The melting
Cure the pain
Contained
Overflowing tears
Quiet plea

Share on FacebookHi Mike, I like your photos. Just like you, I suffered for many years from depression, which came and goes. I tried all the methods of therapy and none of them work. Except for one :) Our planet gave us an unusual plants that help us get back to mental health. I mean entheogenic plants such as ayahuasca, mushrooms, san pedro, LSD (which is not exactly a plant). After many years of my depression - I cured the disease completely with the help of plants. I do not encourage you to do by yourself or without preparation. If you want to try - find someone experienced and read a little about it. Very good are the book by Stanislaw Grof. I wish you to return to health. No one is condemned to live in depression. Best, Michael.
Hi Mike. I think you have done a very good job here expressing your feelings with your hand. The photographs are well crafted delivering mood of the expression. Well done!
These are brilliant, great concept and beautifully created, I love the colour palette
