There was a sharp intake of breath as I pulled the washing out of the machine and my husband’s brightly coloured, hand wash only, tie dye trousers fell out onto the floor. I shut my eyes for a moment as I could imagine what could have happened to my lovely white underwear!
Luckily I had included a colour catcher in the wash – my Mum swears by these things, put one in the washing machine and in theory they catch any colour that runs thus saving your washing. Count me as a convert when I pulled out a completely coloured colour catcher and still white underwear.
But you know, there is beauty in everything and I was really taken by the colours and the creases in the catcher, so much so that I took some photographs and before I knew where I was I was busy processing images and making collages.
I think the colour catcher made some pretty colourful art – see what you think. The first collage is the original colours that came out of the washing machine. The second collage shows a bit of artistic licence as I have tinkered with the colours.

Colour Catcher Collage 1
I couldn’t believe how beautiful the colour catcher was when I pulled it out of the washing machine after putting my husband’s tie dye trousers in with the wash by mistake.

Colour Catcher Collage 2
Based on a crumpled colour catcher that came out of the washing machine after my husband’s colourful tie dye trousers were included in the wash by mistake! This collage comprises a revised colour scheme version and the original purple and green (in the bottom right hand quadrant)
