I Keep My Mother Close To My Heart By Handcrafting Christmas Ornaments
Hello! My name is Nancy Northrup and I have always loved decorating for the Christmas season. Growing up the youngest of five children of a single mother I never realized there wasn’t a lot of money to spend on Christmas because my mother was so creative making something from nothing.
I think I inherited that creativity from her. In my own home we put up four Christmas trees: one that has only glass ornaments, one has unbreakable ornaments, a small one with tiny ornaments and an even smaller one with even tinier ornaments.
Every year I would make new ornaments until one year my husband and I agreed that the number of ornaments was getting a little overwhelming. That was when he suggested I continue to make ornaments but see if I could make a business out of it. We decided that I would do the creative work, he would take care of the business end and our daughter would do the marketing and photography. In fact, our daughter is the one who christened the business Nancrafted Christmas. In just the first three months I made over 450 ornaments.
I feel like I am able to keep my mother’s memory alive by continuing to make something from nothing for the Christmas season. Below is a small sample of the items you can find on my Etsy page. Happy Holidays!
