I guess all kids have their fantasy stories to relate to. Listening to childhood stories makes them dream and imagine a different worlds and characters.
Ever since I became an amateur photographer 3-4 years ago and a professional photographer almost two years ago, i had a tendency for fantasy and out of this world photography. I guess it dates back to my childhood as i used to get lost in the pages of my story books , using my vivid imagination to give life in my head to the worlds i was reading about. I remember spending hours and hours reading and drawing my favorite characters, trying to portrait them as best as i could at that time.
What i didn’t know back then is that the fantasy worlds I was reading about would stick with me over the years. After a big health crisis in my life, I decided to turn to photography as it always stayed with me as a hobby but never really took the time or interest to actually look into it and develop my artistic side. For my total surprise i was pretty good at it, and not only that but it gave me a completion feeling i never felt before. So i decided to follow it full speed and never look back.
It took several years to improve my self as a photographer to be able to finally express accurately what I actually saw when i was pushing that shutter button. Every single client of mine gets a unique experience because every single client is unique and special and I love to portrait them as fantasy characters. It is so much fun trying to decide what to do next, but the good part is that usually comes pretty easy because inspiration doesn’t wait much. A person can transmit so much about themselves without even realizing and for me is pretty easy to get that, it is the main thing that determines the story character.
Coming back to the Ice Queen…i had this in mind for a lots of years now. I was asking some of my clients and models if they are interested in doing this cause i was feeling ready to finally making it come to life… but nobody seemed particular interested. I was a bit frustrated, for sure people were not grasping what I had in mind and what i was capable to do with this project.
Until one day when I met beautiful Paula…we have made a photo shoot before and the results were pretty surprising for me, she was beautiful and expressive. So one day after trying to decide what to do for Christmas photos, we both shouted: neahhh, that’s been over done. Let’s do something different!
All it took was the help of our beautiful and talented make up artist and for Paula to get into the character’s skin. It gave me immense pleasure to see her coming to life in my Photoshop window as I put the ice layers in place.
This comes to show that no matter the dream, regardless if big or small, it is never too late and it will always give you happiness and pleasure to see it materializing in front of your eyes.
I had to wait for my little childhood dream to come to life for 30 years . But i guess it was worth the wait :)
