I Got Bored By The Gray Cityscape Of Berlin, So I Started To Colorize Buildings With Photoshop
I am Paul Eis, a 19 years old architecture student. In the summer of 2015, I was walking through the streets of Berlin looking for some nice architecture to photograph. But I had to realize how monotonous the cityscape of my hometown is in the most places.
I thought how it would look like when the buildings are not as gray as they are, but being colorful.
So I started to add bright colors to my photos and posting them on Instagram.
Because of the overwhelming feedback, I got there I started a larger series. And I did not stay in Berlin. I also photographed buildings from different cities in Germany like Hamburg and Munich. But also from the Netherlands and recently from Austria where I started to study last year.
I think colors could help to make the architecture more interesting and more lively.

I would love for buildings to actually look like this! Love these colors!
Funny that this Inner Courtyard is actually not artificially colored, apart from the one section to the right ;-) Sometimes, Berlin really is colorful!
Yes the original building itself is already very beautiful and special. It's in Vienna by Querkraft architects
Load More Replies...Is this Berlin as well? Don't know this Building but it looks like I should visit it as well!
Nein dieses hier ist in Wien. Das Gebäude heißt Leopoldtower und ist wirklich sehr spannend zu fotografieren
Load More Replies...This is also a very special Building, would love to know where it is!
i would like to see those colored buildings back in their gray part of the city. Just for the contrast.
Yes of course that would be also interesting. Maybe i will make a short series about that sometime
Load More Replies...Pretty cool! Some of them reminded me of Yener Torun pictures. You should check him out - in case you don't know him already - his Instragram account is pure joy for the eyes :)
Thank you! Yes i know him. He is a great photographer and his pictures are absolutely fantastic. But I think unlike my images, the buildings on his photos are all existing with this colors. I don't know where he found them all ;)
Load More Replies...Great work. I would not call the buildings "boring", though. Most of them are wonderful works of art, albeit not colorful as you imagined :)
Thank you! The "boring" was not related to the buildings, which are mostly of course very nice peaces of architecture in the original but rather to the whole cityscape.
Load More Replies...I would LOVE to see some colored buildings like these in the real world, and not just in photoshop. They're great!
Thank you :) There are actually some but just very very few.
Load More Replies...This is eyegasm! I wish i could like every photo a 1000 times!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE
...some of your colourful pics are not located in Berlin - its Hamburg!
Yes that's right. There are also buildings from Munich and from the Netherlands and Austria
Load More Replies...Paul, you managed to miss out on the REAL contrast between boring and exciting. Having lived in Germany in the mid 60s, I traveled to West Berlin and was so gratified to see the hustle, bustle, and positive outlook. But just one trip through Checkpoint Charlie and witnessing the depressing outlook of East Berliners and the rubble that remained of bombed out buildings, which were not even rebuilt, was a sight to behold. It seemed that there were more Volkspolizei(Vopos) out and around, than regular citizens. Not boring,..........Just depressing. :(
Yes you're are totally right! I, born 9 years after the fall of the Berlin wall, can not imagine how big that contrast had been. Indeed there is still a big contrast but I think it had been two different worlds.
