My project’s been up and running since 2015 and is essentially directed towards museums and libraries. The mainstay is colourisation of historical photography, but occasionally something comes along that challenges further. In this case it’s the footage of William F. Cody (aka Buffalo Bill) and a project I recently undertook. The Thomas Edison Co. documented many scenes of Buffalo Bill in the early 1900s. All were of course silent and in black & white. They presented my methods with a major challenge, that being realizing scene after scene in color. This is a clip of that result and forms a part of a larger documentary piece that I am looking to complete by early 2020.
What you are seeing is a conversation between Buffalo Bill and Oglala Lakota Chief Iron Tail using Plains Indian Sign Language. It has been translated previously albeit I can neither confirm or deny the accuracy of the translation. I think where history is concerned that needs to be looked into further. Perhaps somebody reading this post will be in a position to advise on that aspect. Please enjoy this transformed footage ….
