The miracle of birth is so intense and powerful, some dads faint only after a glimpse of it. But not William Trice Battle. He was there, with his wife, all the way through. And not once did he think it was too much for him. “I didn’t get to experience it with Kannon (my stepson), and so I knew I wanted to experience it [this time],” William told Bored Panda. “I wanted to be the rock for her during one of the scariest moments of her life. Little did I know that it would end up being one of the scariest moments of my own.”

Despite immersing himself into this magical moment, the man still doesn’t know how his wife did it.

So, to thank the love of his life, William penned the most sincere open letter. He did such a wonderful job of putting his thoughts and feelings into words, the heartwarming post instantly went viral.

The couple have been married for a little over a year now. They have two children, but this is their first biological child together; they’re raising a 5-year-old boy who is William’s stepson. “He is possibly the best thing that has ever happened to me apart from her.”

Throughout the pregnancy, William once again realized that his wife is the truest embodiment of sacrificial love he’s ever known. “She is magnetic. Her charisma and exuberance draw you in,” the man said. “She commands attention, not by force, but simply by the way she genuinely cares about whoever she is having a conversation with. She’ll tell you a story in such a way, you’re hooked from start to finish. She’s funny, sarcastic, brilliant, open-minded, and strong. She is also the most efficient, independent, and self-sufficient person I have ever met. All that aside, what I love about her personality the most, is she has a heart of gold. She genuinely cares about people and their well-being.”

The inspiration to write the post came to William late that night at the hospital. “The chaos had settled, and my wife Lauren was nursing our beautiful boy, Roman Creed. She had barely slept a wink in almost 2 days and I knew she was exhausted and in pain. But you couldn’t tell. It’s as if holding our son took away all the pain, all the fear, all the anxiety. Nothing else at that moment mattered to her and I knew just from looking at her that she would have gone through it all again for him. I’ve never seen such love, such strength, from anyone like that before.”

Meanwhile, the hospital staff, their family and friends were all focusing on their baby. “All attention was on him (understandably, he’s gorgeous and needed medical supervision). But my attention was on her. She’d never looked more beautiful to me. My love and respect for her and what she went through for him was so great that the words in that post just overflowed from my heart. The post simply came from a desire to pay homage to the most incredible woman I know, and I’m so thankful that my words have touched so many lives because of it.”

“If there was one takeaway I would like people to get from the post, it would be for all the husbands and future husbands out there. Dive into your partner’s world. Try everything you can to appreciate the sacrifices they make for your children. Compassion and empathy are necessary if you are to truly love your partner. So be present, be engaged, and be grateful. You might discover along the way that this was the missing ingredient you needed in order to truly have a joyful marriage that lasts a lifetime.”
