Already bored with the new year? Well, we believe we can fix that because Dieter Bevers (Quatsch) is back on Bored Panda! Dieter is a comic artist based in Belgium who stands out with his witty and absurd cartoons illustrating ridiculous situations in the human or animal worlds.

The artist has previously shared with us that he wants to make people smile. "So if people think one of my cartoons is funny then that's mission accomplished." Scroll down to forget about your earthy worries at least for a bit.

Bored Panda reached out to Dieter again! Since it's the 3rd time we have featured his comics, we got curious whether the artist has noticed some sort of change or development in his style. Dieter replied that he doesn't think that his style has developed a lot over the years. "I think that my style still needs some evolving. I'm not satisfied with it. I think it is a bit too simple. So I guess I should stick at it and see where it goes."

Like most artists, Dieter also faces some challenges while doing creative work. For him, the most challenging aspect is finding the time to make cartoons. "Getting ideas to draw, that's not difficult: I always have (way) more ideas than time to work them out. It is always the lack of time that frustrates me. I would love to draw full-time but it's hard to make a living as a cartoonist. For the moment I have to make my money in other ways. My dream is to earn my living by pen and pencil, but this is not possible now. I cannot pay my bills this way, alas."

Most of Dieter's comics have only a single panel. The artist shared that he found that one-panel cartoons work best on his Instagram account. "This is because I think people don't always want to spend too much time on multi-panel comics. For me, It's more work to make multiple-panel cartoons and when I notice that these don't get a lot of reactions then I tend to make one-panel cartoons. So it's not that I have a preference for one-panel cartoons but I would say that it's more the medium that decides the format, not me."

After being asked how people mostly react to his work, the artist replied that he doesn't get a lot of reactions. But when he does, they are mostly positive. "This stimulates me to keep going because I don't make a lot of money with my cartooning. The things I post are mostly just stuff I make in my free time. I love getting reactions to my comics because then I know what the public likes or doesn't like which helps me to make future decisions about what I should publish."

As for future plans, Dieter wants to make some comic strips. "I have some ideas for short comic projects (stories that take just a few pages, no long stories). But it is difficult to work on these projects when you have a day job and a family life. Time is always a problem in making comics. It's a challenge but with some time management, I'm sure I will be able to do this."

The Scotch Game is a chess opening for white (there's also the Spanish Game or the Italian Game).

Scotch is a type of whisky, therefore all scotch is whisky but not all whisky is scotch. And if you get really picky, usually it’s spelled “whisky” when referring to scotch or Canadian whisky and “whiskey” when referring to American whiskey and Irish whiskey. :-)

Some background info is needed here: Peyo's comic strip "The Flute With Six Smurfs" (1958) was the very first story in which the Smurfs appeared. This homage cartoon was posted on december 24, 2022. Peyo died on december 24,1992 (so that was exactly 30 years ago).
