Bored Panda reached out to the creator behind "The Crowbar Comics" to learn more about their creative process and themselves. The artist shared, "I’ve always liked to draw and I’ve always liked to write," shedding light on the inspiration that led them to pursue a career as a comic artist. "Comics seemed to be a perfect marriage of those two things. The inspiration would come from weekends as a kid filled with watching syndicated episodes of the Simpsons on repeat. As far as comic strips, our local paper featured Bizarro and Non-Sequitur Comic strips, which I found fascinating and smart."

When asked about their creative rituals or habits that help them get into a creative mindset, the artist behind "The Crowbar Comics" revealed that their creative process starts with writing. "I have a notebook, where I’ll start with a random word, then I’ll just come up with dozens of situations around that random word. Then, hopefully, there is something in those drafts that is worth working on even further. I’ll often start sketching the concept and modify the dialogue, keeping it as short and effective as possible. Then, if it graduates the sketch phase, it gets color and ink."

To a question about how they come up with ideas for their comics, the artist shared that they have to sit down and write, and at some point, something emerges. "But it involves working at it for some time. It’s like a puzzle; relaxing and engaging," they added.

Discussing the challenges and the most rewarding aspects of creating comics, the artist revealed that, as someone balancing a full-time job and a family alongside their role as a comic artist, the greatest challenge lies in finding the time to draw.

"The most enjoyable part of the creative process is coming up with the ideas and sketching. It’s meditative, relaxing, focused creation time. That’s the focus work that I can spend hours upon hours on."
