"From a very young age, I had fun either copying cartoons or comics, but also creating my own stories (very poorly drawn, but I think they were funny)," Karlo Ferdon, who now works as a full-time graphic designer, told Bored Panda in an interview previously. The artist’s minimalistic cartoon drawings personify food, nature, and other ordinary objects as he makes sure to inject some light-hearted humor into those almost surreal situations that require no words to understand.

Once again Bored Panda reached out to Karlo Ferdon but this time with even more questions! First, we asked the artist if he had any major influences in his life that might've helped him to develop and refine his style.

“My main influences were the comics I read as a child. Comics such as the Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbes, Mampato, Condorito, and many more were the most memorable and, to be honest, these were the main ones I could think of as of right now!”

His great sense of humor inspired him to make many comics that are absurd as well as very inventive. The comic artist has been making comics for many years already, posting them on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and even Twitter, and to no one’s surprise, Karlo's audience so far has been very appreciative and supportive of his hard work and ideas.

With over 637 posts on Instagram already, the artist has racked up an applaudable number of followers, over 20k to be exact. And it's not only that, the comic author has reached over 10k likes on Facebook too. Karlo Ferdon portrays simple things with deep significance, and his lack of words when it comes to his single-panel comics is what makes it so special.

Art, in any kind of form, takes a lot of time not only to practice but also to produce, therefore we asked Karlo how long it takes him to fully finish his comics.

“For me coming up with the idea is what takes the longest most of the time, but when it comes to drawing the comics I can complete one comic in an hour, or an hour and a half, depending on the number of details!”

Being an artist is not easy, one can easily encounter a lack of inspiration, burnout, etc, so we wanted to ask Karlo about his ideas for the comics.

I do have one tip when it comes to ideas! My formula is pretty much putting the characters in everyday situations and having absurd results with a touch of surprise. Generally, the more you draw, the more ideas you get! It works both ways.”

As we mentioned before, sometimes creative work can cause quite a burnout, therefore we asked the artist how he dealt with that as well.

“Sure, I do get burnt out and there are also creative blocks sometimes. My personal suggestion is not to push yourself too hard. Just try to think that the best drawing and the best idea is the one that will come tomorrow.”

We also asked Ferdon about how people reacted to his work.

If telling the truth, generally people tend to react very well. Of course, there are always those who do not understand the joke at all or understand the opposite of what the cartoon tries to say or portray, but it is something that usually happens when making humorous comics without any words.”

The creative process is not easy, but there are always some enjoyable parts about it.

“My favorite part of the process? Probably when I try to translate what I have in my mind onto the blank sheet of paper, it is not always a true copy of what I had in my head, but I do my best to make it a reality.”

Artists tend to get motivated by a lot of things such as curiosity, the search for beauty, or even meaning. Therefore, we asked Karlo about that too.

“At the beginning, my works were published in press, local newspapers, and magazines. Little by little social networks were also started to give artists more independence, and before I knew it there were Fotologs, Blogs, and now even Facebook and Instagram pages.
