This Online Group Collects Random Advice On “How To Do Anything And Everything Yourself” And Here’s 40 Of The Best Ones
Life hacks are basically an entire subgenre of online content. The trend has permeated all the social media platforms and gained a somewhat notorious reputation for being either inexplicably absurd (like, chopping onions with a face shield or getting stains out of your shirt with shaving foam) or simply “but why?”-inducing.
But luckily, the internet is one endless black hole (can we all just agree on that description?) and that means there should be some genuinely useful tips to make our lives easier and more efficient floating around. Well, if you are like me, in search of ways to make yourself do stuff by yourself, proving that you’re an independent responsible millennial adult, the chances are, sooner or later, you’d stumble upon the “How To” subreddit.
According to the sub’s description, it’s a place “where you can learn how to do anything and everything yourself! Need advice on how to start a podcast or how to fix your car? It's all here from A-Z!” So if it seems like a promise, a whopping 2.9M followers prove it overdelivers.

One way to go about it is setting a goal for yourself in order to learn something. Turns out, it’s a key to long-term happiness, as it gives you both a long-term vision and short-term motivation. First off, it focuses on you and makes you the creator of your own life in a world where we too often believe in coincidences. No wonder many of those who accomplish their dreams, goals or resolutions become much more confident in themselves.
Your journey of progress really depends on what kind of goal you set for yourself. It may be big or small, life-long, year-long or even a week-long goal. For some, it may be losing a few pounds, for others it’s getting promoted, learning a new language, running a marathon, overcoming a fear, you name it.

Another way to go about it is to try and become more useful to the people around you. The feeling that you are, in some way, useful to another human being is one of the most precious things that can boost your self-esteem, help the relationship, and give a sense of fulfillment. And to be so, you don’t have to be an inverter, entrepreneur or have a wall of diplomas.
The key to being useful to others is making them stand taller than you are. And it takes simple things like telling people their strengths when they forget about them, or helping them to avoid mistakes. Believing in others and telling them that is another way to empower those around you. Try listening without judgment as most often all people want is simply to be heard.
By doing that, we realize that our actions, our words, and our presence are capable of adding value to another human being’s life. And that is one hell of a life hack I wish to carry with me for years to come.

How To Know If You Have Heat Stroke
An EMT responder once told me to never dump ice cold water on on a person if they have a heat stoke. I don't remeber the reason but it might kill the person.
I think it may be due to the sudden, extreme change in temperature - you need to cool them down gradually. Well, not too gradually, but not that quickly either!
Load More Replies...I have had heat exhaustion, it’s a bear because it can make a person intolerant to heat events afterwards, drink lots of Gatorade or juice not water, you need to boost electrolytes. Start your shower off warm then slowly reduced the temperature to cooler. Never ice a person or plunge them into cold water as that can cause a heart attack
That makes sense I'm much more sensitive to heat now than I used to be. I find where possible a cool shower does help immensely.
Load More Replies...This reminds me of when my sister saved my life at a festival. It was day 1 of a 3 day festival & the field we were on was measuring 120°F (~48.9°C). I was watching a band, when one of the main performers had to run off to the side of the stage because she started vomiting from the heat. They ended their set early that day. And then I noticed that I had stopped sweating. Now, I am not an outdoors person & never have been or will be, so I had no idea that when you stop sweating, it's dangerous. Luckily, my sister had a press pass & access to an unlimited amount of cold water bottles, which she brought to me after putting me in the shade. By the time I got to the shade I was already throwing up. So it was progressing pretty quickly. She spent a good 2 hrs with me, forcing me to drink more water & pouring the water all over me until I was cooled enough. I definitely learned a lesson that day. And I will always consider it the day my sister saved my life.
What a wonderful sister, and so glad you were able to make it through that.. P.S. I'm going to 'follow' you - from one crazy cat lady to another - we've got to stick together.😹
Load More Replies...My wife gets heat strokes because she cannot sweat normally. I made her use spray bottles on hot days and it has really solved the issue. I even found a spray bottle with a small battery powered fan on Amazon. That works even better.
I don't get it a lot but yes it is something to be aware of. Try to stay in the shade. Drink water or tea . I collapsed on the road one time from this. Some people stopped and asked if they could help. They had an automobile and helped me to get home. It was only a mile away. Please take heat exhaustion seriously because it sneaks up on you.
Load More Replies...I had a heat stroke once in middle school while running the track on one of the hottest days of the year. (In Texas no less) But they still didn't see what was wrong with running the track after that, even with a kid passing out, two kid going to the ER (That's a different story but i think it was similar to mine) And a couple fights and kids doing drugs out there.
At my high school, they expected us to run in 35-37 celsius, I used to sit in the shade and tell them that no way in hell was I running in that kind of heat, and I would not be leaving the shade.
Load More Replies...i'm like 99% sure i've had heat exhuastion before on a really hot day at summer camp when everyone was sweating and inexplicably faint and sick feeling. not fun.
Oh good, I didn't have either of these when I went to Harry Potter Land. I was worried XD.
I am proud to say I already have this photo saved from when the temperatures were over 100 last summer
A telltale sign of stroke is that one side of the body becomes less responsive or unresponsive. Ask them to hold up arms, does one droop? Is their face drooping? Is the speech slurred?
I was heading past heat exhaustion to heat stroke... I want to say last year but I think it was 2020. Lancaster CA desert.
