My wife (Grace Cheng) and I are busy business owners and parents of Ramses (4) and Ranefer (2), we’re also travelling on a 6-month round-the-world (RTW) trip on 4 free business class tickets!

In January 2017, our family of four embarked on a round-the-world trip where we’ll be visiting 5 continents.

How did we do this? Last year I was reminiscing about the previous RTW that Grace and I did in 2007, before we were parents. We did this trip without missing a day of work. The more I thought about it, the more my wanderlust grew and I decided to ask Grace if she’d like to do it again, this time with our two young sons in tow.

When I asked Grace if she’d like to travel the world again at first she thought I was joking, but eventually the answer was a resounding “yes”.

Since this time we are travelling with our young children, we decided that we were going to shoot for the stars and travel in business class.

We had already been using our credit card points and miles to redeem for cash back and for shorter trips, but we thought there must be some way to “hack the system” and allow us to go around the world on free round-the-world tickets.

So we devised a plan and aimed high: our goal was to earn 1 million credit card miles in 1 year and use them to travel around the world for free on 4 business class tickets worth $54,000.

We aren’t super frequent flyers, so the main hack to collect miles was to earn them as credit card points or miles, through a combination of signing bonuses and on-the-ground spending. You can see the hacks we used to collect these million miles on GET.com.

Et voilà! We achieved our goal and we’ve already visited Cape Town, Kenya, Valencia, Bath, London, Finland and Switzerland. The next destinations on our trip around the world will include South America, the Caribbean, the US, Korea and Japan.
