I was traveling to Central America, Costa Rica, 5 years ago.
Nature, big green trees, rainforest, riding horses on the large sandy beaches, I ate the most delicious fruit and I met such a lovely locals. I didn’t understand a single word of Spanish, but hey, somehow everything worked out well.
I’m not a huge fan of an animal zoos. Trapped animals? I just can’t see the fun in this. But in Costa Rica my sister and I have visited Animal Sanctuary, the place for rescue animals, who wouldn’t survive in the nature, but here they have full time care, and it was just wonderful to watch and feel the love they are receiving. Animals share their space with suitable partners who can provide companionship and emotional stimulation.
Despite all wonderful animals, my eyes stopped on Sloths. For the first time I saw arboreal mammals sloths in person. Interesting animal, spending most of their lives hanging upside down in the trees. Because of the very low metabolism and deliberate movements, sloth being related to the word slow.
When I came home, I wanted to capture this moment by creating this noted for slowness of movement animals with a polymer clay.
Today I’m working on sloth figurines almost daily, customers love them as a keepsake after the wedding.
I love sloths
