How I Fell In Love With The Romanian Carpathians

Over the past three years, I have had the opportunity to enjoy lots of treks in the Romanian Carpathians, some of which leading to peaks over two thousand five hundred meters high.

Just picture yourself sitting under pure night skies with a crystal-clear view of the Milky Way right above your head; or imagine hiking through the clouds only to find yourself a few hours later sitting on a rock, overlooking the very same sea of clouds you were just in.

Wonderful waterfalls are a common sight on these treks and yes, it is almost always safe to refill your bottle with that fresh mountain water.

The cabins are a real blessing, especially in winter, and it is totally worth spending a night in one of them just to wake up to some of the most beautiful sunrises you have ever seen. With a few exceptions, the cabins tend to be quite rustic, so don’t set your expectations too high if you are planning to spend a few nights there. It’s always better to be surprised than to be disappointed.

Oh, and have I mentioned the clouds? They create wonderful landscapes almost all the time and one of the most relaxing things you can do is just stop and watch them covering forests and mountains, all while fueling your hiking dreams.
