The sign on the gate is a warning about armed animal traps and the villagers moved because of the installation of the Inunaki Dam. There is a small monument to that effect at the village. Also, the type of story that gave rise to the name is very common in Japanese lore in which an animal is perceived as being annoying or aggressive and the person kills it only to find out later it was trying to protect him.

Also in 1988 a man was tortured, burned, and killed by a group of teens in the walled off old tunnel. This story is easily found and true. An older story states that around 100 people died in the tunnel’s construction due to collapse.
