Below, you will find some of the best science-based memes, shared by the Facebook page fittingly titled ‘Science Memes,’ which has already amassed more than 1.3 million followers. If you’re thinking they must be some good memes if they’ve glued so many people to their devices, let us assure you—they are. So make yourself comfortable, maybe grab a snack or two, and enjoy the giggling session as you scroll through this unique blend of humor and science. Also, be sure to upvote your favorite memes!

RELATED:

Whether you’re a science geek in the best sense of the word or someone who’s had enough of it back at school, you ought to agree that these science-based memes are pretty funny. Probably that’s why the ‘Science Meme’ Facebook page, created roughly a decade ago, has already amassed more than 1.3 million followers.

It will come as no surprise, but people enjoy funny content. That’s why you might recall an anecdote faster than a scientific fact. But the two can actually go hand in hand, sometimes even helping students learn about science and the world we live in.

Research on the educational power of humor on student engagement in online learning environments found that humor can increase students’ engagement in the process of learning.

“The positive effects of humorous elements for behavioral engagement in the discussion help to maintain active participation and tracking of discussion topics,” the study read in part. “In practical assignments, the humorous element has a positive effect on the indicators of behavioral engagement, including the time spent and number of assignment attempts.”

Dr. Ronald A. Berk, Professor Emeritus of Biostatistics and Measurement at Johns Hopkins University, seconds the idea that humor can be used to help students learn easier; and, of course, make the process more fun!

Berk, a professor of a rather intimidating subject, was cited by the American Psychological Association (APA), saying that humor helps relieve fear and reduce anxiety. "When I enter the classroom, I want to change the entire atmosphere into one where everyone has fun with the material—even if the material is complex," he said.

But, according to the professor, it’s important not to overdo it, too, as comedy should complement the course material and not distract students from it.

Humor when learning can be used in all sorts of ways. According to APA, in one of professor Berk’s classes, for instance, he had two groups of students enter the classroom, the first group doing so accompanied by the song “All That Jazz” and the second group later to the beats of the theme music from “Rocky”.

The first group of students wearing white gloves and the second one throwing punches with hooded sweatshirts were used by the professor to explain the concept of statistical sampling designs. It’s safe to say that whether or not they passed their exams, the students remembered statistical sampling and that particular lesson for a long time.

Unsurprisingly, funny memes can also help students learn and retain information. A study on enhancing the student learning experience through memes found that both creating and using memes can improve the perception of knowledge retention. According to it, the majority of students considered meme-making to be “both fun and relevant while helping them remember and reflect on class content”.

erm, it's a non-zero net force. So if you put force on a girl that's greater than another force acting on her, it's a non-net force. But if you put force on a girl you are with, you lose her. But no. If you act a force on a girl either way they're gonna act and punch you in the face which is an equal and opposite reaction.

As someone who teaches in higher education, I absolutely hate seeing this kind of thing. It just tells me the person running that session either has no sense of how much time it takes to teach something, will try to cram *way* too much info into the allotted time, or run out of time and spend two frantic minutes whizzing through 50 slides. Or all of the above.

Wikipedia is Not a reliable source. Back in college, a friend's professor assigned a report on the North American Tree Mollusk. If you just went to wikipedia, you would find a full detailed page on it. It would have all the information you needed, including pictures and sources. Except it was all fake. If you did any real research, you'd find that out. But if you just went to wikipedia, you'd see only the false information. Anyone who turned in a report that was more than just "this thing is fake" failed the assignment, but hopefully learned the importance of doing proper research.

Hell no. I think the extraordinary pain that goes with it would put you off... From Wikipedia-Aside from causing intense pain, the venom of the spider can also cause priapism in humans. Erections resulting from the bite are uncomfortable, can last for many hours and can lead to impotence. A component of the venom, (Tx2-6), is being studied for use in erectile dysfunction treatments.[20][3] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoneutria_nigriventer

Ah, the ant death spiral. Apparently army ants, which are practically blind, rely on a pheromonal system with which they mark their paths and follow each other. If a group of them get separated somehow and lose the track, they start following each other in a circle, until they either find another track, or, commonly, die of exhaustion. Bit like my thoughts at night 😅
