Introverts and extroverts see the world very differently, but they’re both loveable in their own unique ways. However, being an introvert isn’t easy, as these memes, collected by our people-and-cat-loving Bored Panda team, will show you. Remember to upvote the ones that you related to the most as you scroll down and be sure to check our our earlier post about introvert memes right here.
However, the world of introversion and extroversion is much more complex than it would first seem. Real introverts and extroverts are far rarer than we think; extroversion is actually a spectrum, not binary; and the vast majority of us are actually ambiverts, falling somewhere in the middle.
Bored Panda previously spoke about the myths surrounding introversion with Dr. Andrew Spark from the Queensland University of Technology. Dr. Spark, who has researched the link between introversion and leadership, explained to us that introverts think about social interaction differently from extroverts and this may impact their career paths and positions.

Yeah. Gave my therapist a good laugh when I told her I've been practicing quarantine for years before Covid. Seriously, it is a mind boggle to have doctors and therapists giving me pity looks when describing my daily routine (then giving social suggestions) to having them congratulating me for my daily routine.
“My research on introversion and leadership focuses on how introverts and extroverts think and feel about the behaviors required of leaders in leadership situations. Leadership roles typically require one to act in ways that are generally better suited to extroverts (e.g., to be assertive, social, bold, etc.),” Dr. Spark from the Queensland University of Technology told Bored Panda.
“For many decades, we have known that extroverts tend to perform better in leadership roles and are selected into leadership roles more often, however, more recent scientific work has been exploring how and why this happens,” Dr. Spark said.
THIS. Also, I have this one friend who never replies via text but just HAS TO call back... Ughhh...
its like making a zoom call for something that can be concluded via email
“In my own work, my colleagues and I found that one of the reasons introverts are not seen to be as ‘leaderlike’ by others is because they think that leadership situations are going to be unpleasant. The technical name for this is ‘affective forecasting.’ Affective forecasting refers to the expectation we have of our future emotions, which is to say that we make a prediction about how we will feel in a future situation.”
Dr. Spark continued: “Introverts are known to underpredict how good they will feel in future social interactions if they forecast themselves acting extroverted (because, perhaps surprisingly, acting extroverted is actually quite enjoyable, even for introverts). Given leadership situations require extroverted behavior, we expected that introverts’ propensity to forecast more negative affect would probably help to explain why they do not rise into leadership positions as much as extroverts. This is indeed what we found.”
The main question right now is whether or not we can change how introverts think about social interaction. That way, they might stand a better chance of rising to leadership positions. In fact, according to Dr. Spark, sometimes introverts can be much more effective than extroverts in those positions.
Dr. Spark pointed out that introverts are by no means common. “Because extroversion is a continuum, most people actually fall somewhere around the middle of the continuum. These people are sometimes called ‘ambiverts,’” he said.
Me too!!! I also have the other amazing super power of giving great advice and messing up with my problems!
Load More Replies...Brilliant! And part of the service has to be where your assigned extrovert contacts you via text to remind you of the next days events and offers to cancel them for you. I am into it!!!! Quietly. By myself.
I would purchase that app for over 1k. I just want to text someone and be like, can you order pizza for me?
There’s a service for that in Sweden, texttelefoni.se. You can write and the middle man makes the calls for you, even personal ones. Maybe it’ll work internationally too :D
I am an extrovert with anxiety and depression, don't think I can help with this, ^^
I know someone who used to have their mom do that and once married his wife did that for quite a while. He is no longer that introverted.
I have an app on my phone that let's me see what's in the mailbox...
When I turned ten, my sister began making me do everything for her in public (especially buying her underwear or going to the cashier), and this, I believe, is the only reason I do not live under my carpet.
Yes, but you'd still have to talk to that person to instruct them and get updates. And if they got something wrong, it would be that much more frustrating because you'd have to repeat the process to correct it. I'd rather do it myself and get it right the first time so it's done and over with.
We could do it by text... I'd write 20 texts rather than having a 20 sec phone call.

The remaining 60-70% of the population are probably more difficult to pigeon hole and hence may be better thought of as ambiverts.”
What’s more, Dr. Spark drew attention to another myth surrounding introverts and how they supposedly can’t be extroverted. “A large body of evidence shows that introverted people actually engage in quite a number of extroverted behaviors in their daily lives as the specific situation demands, despite having a preference to be quiet and reserved. Equally, extroverted people engage in quite a number of introverted behaviors in their daily lives. That said, it is interesting that extroverted people have been shown to sometimes struggle when having to act introverted.”
According to Dr. Spark, the research on whether or not introverts need to recharge more after socially interacting with others is mixed. “For example, in this study, scientists found that both introverts and extroverts experienced mental depletion after interacting with others and that this depletion occurred approximately 3 hours after the interaction It didn’t make any difference if the person was introverted or extroverted,” he shared.
“Then again, this study found that introverts experience slightly more negative emotion, tiredness and more feelings of inauthenticity when acting extroverted, despite also experiencing more positive emotion (note that positive and negative emotion are actually different processes rather than being polar opposites, so it is possible to be high on both). The jury is still out on this issue, which might come as a surprise to many!”
Dr. Spark added: “A lot more research needs to be done to understand how and why introverts think differently and whether we can uncover ways to encourage introverts into leadership positions given that they are quite capable of effective leadership in certain situations.”
What about you, dear Pandas? Which side of the introversion/extroversion fence do you find yourself most often on? Which of the memes in this list did you relate to the most? Has the global pandemic turned you into more of an introvert? Share your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
yeah but you learn to hide the bodies well over time (speaking from experience)
should i say it no no no I should be braver ok y e s yez no no no yis uhh yes finally ok lets unmute deep breath ym.y..yes?
i do this a f*ckin lot i have a lot of things with introverts in common
I do not understand why being introvert mostly mistaken as being shy or being socially awkward. Some of the memes also did that in this post. I am socially very skillful, a very good listener and speaker, even can give a public speech. But I would prefer to stay at home, read a good book, after human interactions need a ME time (preferable a loooong one. I think being introvert is not a lack of capacity of communication, just not to prefer it. Or not to NEED to communicate every day, all day without inner thought like who you are, why you live etc...
Agreed. I am not afraid of people or society, I just have a general distaste for both. I can be very loud and confident but I don't want to join in social "chatter". I know that some introverts are shy and anxious but "introverted" does not mean "anxious" or "awkward".
Load More Replies...A lot of those confuses introversion with social anxiety or sociophobia. I have no problems making calls or meeting people, I just don't feel the need to be around people as often as extroverts. I get immensely tired when I spend a lot of time surrounded by people and need to be left alone for at least a few hours a day.
Precisely. Introverts are on a scale along with extroverts. Social anxiety/phobias are a whole different thing. "Preferse to read book at home vs prefers to part at a bar" is one thing. "Won'tn go outside if sees humans there" is another.
Load More Replies...Got the Covid vaccine today. Kind of don't want to tell people so I don't have to feel the obligation to socialize.
Pretend you're still waiting. Then stay that way for as long as you need.

It's called "ambivert" which is just a pretty even amount of both :D
Load More Replies...This pretty much sums up my life, except I like being with people, just as long as we never make eye contact or acknowledge the other person.
Lol as an extrovert at heart: mOsT oF uS aReN'T aLwAyS nOn StOp OuT aNd AbOuT sOcIaLiZiNg!!! XD we need alone time too sometimes. A lot of people are confused by how I'm extroverted, and yet I love to just sit alone in the quiet, doing art and writing/reading. Ngl some of us are like dogs and we love to just socialize, socialize, socialize--but certainly not all of us :p
I can speak very well and at length and even socialise, heck I can even do parties and be on witty form, but I need a lot of time to prepare beforehand and a lot of time to decompress after.
I’m an oxymoron: an extrovert with social anxiety. I feel a need for social interaction but also am scared by and get tired from it easily
Introvert tip: (pretty much everyone knows this though-) if someone calls you, either throw your phone in a black hole, or tell them it’s about to die. You have a good excuse for randomly hanging up.

I thought the comments from Dr. Spark were interesting, especially "when acting extroverted". I think that's the point. It's hard to be in 'acting' mode, it's mentally and emotionally exhausting. I also have a hard time with people wanting to 'change' me (also said by Dr. Spark), like who I am isn't good enough. I am a leader, and am satisfied being the 'second in command'. That's where I excel because the #1 listens to me, follows my decisions when I'm right, etc. I would like to see the research.
Seems more like Social anxiety , not necessarily an introvert. Introverts can be extroverts around certain people.
I used to think I had life as an introvert fully figured out: arrive early and pitch in with food preparation, stay half an hour and leave. Things got even better when I acquired an OCD extrovert boyfriend: he would arrive late, stay until all other guests had left and help the host clean house. But then he dumped me and things took an unexpected turn: I would help with food preparation and then be told that I ''couldn't'' stay because the other guests didn't like me. Should I be glad not to have felt obliged to attend the party?
I would feel glad I didn't have to stay but annoyed at the behaviour?
