It Happened Again…
These funny signs are more than just a good laugh—they also showcase how our brains fill in the blanks. When letters are missing, we naturally try to complete the words, often with hilarious results. This phenomenon is known as “pareidolia,” where our minds recognize familiar patterns even when they’re incomplete. It’s the same reason why we might see faces in clouds or animals in rock formations.
Interestingly, some businesses have embraced these accidental messages as a unique form of advertising. A sign with a missing letter can attract more attention and become a conversation starter. In some cases, companies even leave the signs as they are to keep customers amused and curious. It’s a clever way to turn a simple mistake into a memorable marketing tool.

The popularity of the misLED subreddit shows that people love sharing and enjoying these quirky errors. With over 41 thousand members, the community is always on the lookout for new and funny signs.
Bored Panda reached out to the mods of misLED to find out more about the subreddit's origins. When asked about the inspiration behind it, Maxiscoolerthanyou, the creator of the subreddit, shared a simple childhood memory: "One of my favorite childhood memories is being in the back of the car, looking out the window while we were driving somewhere. It was a rare, random comedy moment when one of my siblings or I would point out a sign accidentally saying something funny."

When asked if they have any personal favorite posts or stories from the subreddit, Maxiscoolerthanyou shared this one because it's “a coincidence that it still makes sense, but in a different number system”.
Moderating a community like misLED can be quite an adventure. There's a lot to love about it, but if Maxiscoolerthanyou had to pick just one thing, it would be that there's never really any drama or anything serious. "I’ve never moderated a sub before, and I’m really glad it was one that I came up with as well, rather than being made a mod by someone else on an already existing sub."

Amidst the sea of burnt-out signs, we asked Maxiscoolerthanyou which ones stand out the most. “To be honest, we do have a lot of reposts, but the ones that get reposted are usually like childish humor, ya know, signs that look like they say swear words, but that’s just how the internet is.”
If you want to find your own misLED signs, keep your eyes peeled next time you’re out and about. Gas stations, supermarkets, and shopping malls are prime spots for these hidden gems. And who knows? You might just capture the next viral post that brings a smile to thousands of faces. So, next time you see a funny sign, snap a picture and share the joy!

I have a photo from a store here in Arizona. "Discount Grocery" has become "Disco Groce" because of broken lights. It's been like that for over a year now
i was in LA with a friend and (after a very long and exhausting day) we passed a shop with neonsign that said PLARL. "who names his business PLARL" i asked my friend and we were both very confused (and tired) "what does it mean?" she was equally confused as me, and then we passed it, we looked back at it and on the other side the sign said PEARL. I think we didnt stop laughing untill we finally went to sleep :-D
I once saw a storage center called 'Ample Storage' become 'Ample Rage'. And a local Walgreens was 'Al Greens' for awhile

I once saw "HO SHOW." It was for a store called SHOE SHOW but the "S" and E in Shoe were burned out. This was pre cell phone cameras so I don't have a photo. I still laugh about it.
