I Have Avoidant Personality Disorder, And I Make Mixed Media Art
Hi, my name is Sarah, and I have an avoidant personality disorder. That means that as I’m trying to learn mixed media on my own, and I have no one (except my Mom) to view and give feedback on my artistic endeavors. I obsessively watch tutorials on YouTube, but my projects never live up to what I try to imitate, and I’ve realized that’s because I’m finding my style. I need to STOP watching tutorials and do my them on my own, which I think, with some practice, could be great someday too. Please, help me out, tell me what you think. Tell me what makes it look amateur and what I could do to improve. Or, maybe if you like it, tell me you like it? Due to my disorder, I think I’m rambling, so I’ll stop now. I hope you like my works.
The devil is in the details, which unfortunately aren’t captured here by the camera
Again, the detailed color contrast isnt captured well enough by this phone camera

Hi, Lenka. I have the same condition as you, avoidant personality disorder. I draw and I've been trying to find my own style just as you, and been obsessed with perfection. I just wanted to encourage you to keep doing these and to be more confident with your art. The more you do it, the more confident you'll become with what you're doing. You're a creative person and that will be extremely useful when you're feeling down. Keep it up!
Unique and pretty! I'm not an art critic but I know good work when I see it. Keep on creating and don't worry about watching too many other artists. You may find a new technique you can adapt for yourself. You can always keep a notebook and write down techniques you want to try and inspirations when you watch others create. Your style will evolve as you grow as an artist and a person. Keep on creating and don't compare yourself to others. As far as criticism, couldn't find anything to criticize.
I am a bit of a b***h with a terribly negative attitude, however, your art is outstanding!! I love the adventure and Christmas card art. Truly, don't worry what some people say! You can't please everyone plus some people are just a******s. Keep doing you! Seriously, fabulous job!
I'm impressed! The colours really pull the disparate elements together. You have a natural feel for mixed media. By the way, don't worry about rambling (trust me, I do it, too and I have a different set of issues!) -- it's really interesting to read your artistic journey, how you started, your initial struggles, your breakthrough in doing your own work.
Melissa rosson, it sounds as if you want to compliment Sarah/Lenka on how well she is handling her diagnosis. From my personal experience, I can tell you that denying that a person has a mental health isn't always taken well -- it could make you sound close-minded (which I'm sure you're not!). What can work better is to write or say, "You seem to be handling/managing your [mental health issue] quite well." Mental health issues involve struggle and it's nice to be told that one is doing a good job. Anyways, it's a learning curve for how to handle other people's struggles -- it's great when we can learn from each other.
