I Am Not Alone
Rebecca is an introverted bookworm. She is more interested in reading than interacting with people, her only friends are the English teacher at her high school and fictional characters, and is bullied because of her love of reading and cherry red hair.
Nathan is your classic high school popular: captain of the football team, dating the captain of the cheerleading team, and extraordinarily handsome.
But everything changes when Rebecca walks in on Nathan crying in a dark classroom. She learns a secret about Nate, something no one else knows. And something that she is the only one Nate can trust.
It's a cheesy ya romance that deals with imposter syndrome, anxiety, false personalities, and societal pressure.
I have "finished" the first draft (I just wrote myself into a corner and have to find a way to get out) and doing some editing but school has gotten in the way so I haven't even opened it in months. I want to finish it though.
My advice for a writing corner is delete the part that got you into it and then write it again
ALRIGHT SO AS YOU ALL KNOW (or like some of you know I do have a few fellow writers frequenting my posts). I am queer. I love found family to death, it gives me all of the happy feelings. So obviously I write queer found family.
Setting; fantasy early 1800s, a continent called (as of right now) Sava, that is ruled by a royal family known as the Hallowed Court. Humans can have magic, and there are magical beings, but humans goddamn hate magic because if they don't understand something, they fear it, and if you fear something enough, you hate it. This isn't great for the devils, a magical race of humanoids with short horns and reddish skin, and since humans are trying to do some genocide (on all magic but mainly devils because they scare them with how sheerly human-like they are) devils and humans are in a war.
The thing that kicks this off is a curse being activated. Basically, this curse finds seven people who are close enough to one another, have all had close contact with magic (I could explain the entire magic system which is awesome but that would take really long) and are all young enough to still have the energy to make the journey. The curse basically forces them to go north towards the origin object, which was long ago assimilated into the hoard of a dragon.
The characters (I know there are eight but technically rez didn't get cursed)bare as follows
Eris Alistair Reviere Venice-Hallow, (they/them) the princept of sava. They're vain, sheltered, privileged, wildly rude, generally a very bad person, and they've been hiding their heat-related magic since they were thirteen. (They're 15 now so it really hasn't been that long)
Resolvement Alexander Redmar; (he/they) minor nobility and one of Eris's two boyfriends (eris is polyam). They go by Rez and they were technically not cursed. I don't know what they see in Eris but they love them like nothing else. Also 15
Fen O'Rill; they/he. They tried their goddamn best to stay away from the main group but since the curse didn't like that eventually they had go deal with it. They're a devil with telekinesis (devil magic is also very cool) and they quickly (to their dismay) develop a crush on Eris, who is gorgeous. The two have the ultimate toxic relationship. They're 15-16
Ajax Mercer; (he/they, but still in questioning) Ajax! My boy. Gotta love Ajax. He's a soldier for what's basically an army of mercenaries that goes around killing anything and everything vaguely related to magic. He's been part of it since he was fourteen. He has depression for some pretty obvious reasons. He's really sweet and gentle, but overall doesn't act like it because his past experiences have taught him to never let his guard down. He's gay but he doesn't know it until he kisses Aspen, who is also one of the main characters. Aspjax for life. 17
Aspen Lastra, because why not (also he/they, I use he they so this is probably just a projecting but idc). Aspen is... not okay at all. They don't have magic, but they've always wished they did and that wish has become a need, causing them to go to some pretty extreme measures. Partway through the book, they end up getting blood magic- not real magic, but a twisted version stemming from pain and sacrifice of one's own life force. Beyond the addiction to magic, they're pretty f*****g cool. Again, aspjax for life. 17
Roen Cassiel (she/they); roen is pretty much a serial killer. She's an infamous bounty hunter and hitman, and she's very, very good at what she does. Again, mental health isn't wonderful, but she doesn't care that much. She's left behind her past life, killing 2/3 of her old best friends and companions (the last one was her old partner who she couldn't kill, so she basically just makes their life hell), and made herself a household name in Sava. 17
Cal Hollister; they/them but prefers masculine nouns. Very bright and optimistic, extroverted and happy. They have magic, but they actually died a few years back and a forest spirit (continued in comments)
Saved their life by intertwining their life forces. The spirit now follows them around, invisible to others by choice, and occasionally talks to them. They also have nature based magic now. 16 Lastly but not leastly; candle morgan! She/her. She's a legionnaire, a member of Sava's military, and has a lot of deep-seated beliefs about magic. She's pretty disciplined and strict, but she does have a soft spot for some of the kids and since she's the only goddamn adult in the entire group she sort of takes the place of the mom friend. 36 Thank you for reading!
