I think they're interesting! After all, all language is made up, so why does it matter is some words were created recently instead of hundreds or thousands of years ago? I have some OCs who use xe/xer, etc. Personally, I find noun-self pronouns difficult to use, since I'm not used to them, so if someone uses other pronouns (such as they/them) I will probably default to that, but if the person only uses noun-self pronouns I will do my best to respect that :)

All language is made up by somebody. Do you think that it’s just been around forever? People invent new words, and then others accept them and start using them too. The word “you” used to be only used when talking to a group of people, and had a lot of backlash when people started using it for a singular person. The same thing today is happening with the word “they,” and soon using “they” will be completely normal just like “you.” Language is constantly shifting and changing, and pronouns are a part of that. People are just scared of viewing language like this because they’re scared of change and feel comfortable with more concrete rules like shoving sex and gender into the same category so they don’t have to think about it, even if it causes other people distress or anxiety.
