Edgar Degas, the French Impressionist. His paintings aren't just enchantingly beautiful, he always struck me as the one artist from before the 20th century who tried to paint female subjects as they really are. Most artists from his age or flattered or idealized female subjects, or used the female form to represent something other than a human being, giving me the impression they didn't think that actual women were worth painting. But Degas was different, his subjects were beautiful without being idealized, and he captured the body language of real humans the way few painters did. He loved to capture people in motion, off balance or making offhand gestures, it gives his paintings a unique sense of life. Some critics have called him "cruel" for seeming to catch his subjects aware, I think they're full of it. He
Jenny-Jinya! She makes those sad Loving Reaper comics to raise awareness about animal cruelty. Even without that, her style is really good. Just an all-around great artist!
I love Egon Schiele's nudes because he painted people as they really are - bony, lumpy, asymmetrical. Other artists painted their "ideal" - Schiele painted reality. Mnay people assume that Schiele's nudes are erotic - I think "erotic" is in the eye of the beholfder. When I look at a painting by Schiele, I see a nude, or semi-nude, human being. I don't find his paintings "erotic".
Schiele was certainly a controversial person. He was convicted of statuatory rape. I do not believe that an artist should be totally separated from their art, but I do recognize that an individual's sex crimes do not necessarily affect their artistic output. I can appreciate Schiele's work without excusing his crimes.
Trevor Henderson. Makes great art with story behind it. Its like my work. or maybe my work is like it but he's a great artist.
If you like Trevor Henderson and his creepy characters, I'd like to introduce you to a youtube channel I think you'd like. It's called lights are off, and has lots of creepy, short animations.
Well. . . he's not famous or anything, but I really love his art: My friend's dad https://www.google.com/search?q=matt+condron&rlz=1CAIBPY_enUS975US975&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwip48v0u6v2AhXSHjQIHepVDB8Q_AUoAnoECAEQBA&biw=1366&bih=665&dpr=1&safe=active&ssui=on
Anne Stokes, Nerdforge and Amaury Guichon.
Oh I know of Amaury Guichon! He’s the guy that makes those incredible chocolate sculptures, right? Tumblr just affectionately calls him chocolate guy 🥰
Goya. I'm a painter and the composition, color, and content of Goya's work is a reliable bar of achievement and excellent for technical practice.
muirin007!! Here is her tumblr: https://muirin007.tumblr.com
