As we grow up, things we used to enjoy either just don't feel the same, or we could even dislike them. It could be due to a change in taste, or even the original work not holding up to the test of time.

What's a show or movie that makes you used to like, only to have a different opinion of?

My brother showed me this one clip, the Barbecue Sauce scene without the laugh track... it genuinely makes Cosby sound like a psychopath.

I used to love the show too, I even know a huuuge load of quotes and references from the early seasons, but the recent ones.. meh. I don't find them funny at all.

That is an awful heartbreaking story. Police, schools, and CPS should have more power to take children away from those situations. I hear it all to often.

Growing up in the mid 2000's, one show I would always look forward to watching was Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (and by proxy, the sequel series Gundam Seed Destiny) on Friday nights.

It was my first exposure to the mech anime genre, and paired with the great animation (at the time), the fights that these massive robots had were incredible. And it helps that it had very good music and sound design.

Rewatching it a few years ago, I felt a change in opinion. I do still think the music, sound design, and animation quality hold up well. Where I find it fails is in the story and characters.

It retreads a lot of the same plot points as the original series from the 70's, without too many differences. Kira Yamato, the protagonist, is very one note, doesn't really grow as a character, and I did not find him as memorable as other protagonists in the series (like Amuro from the original, Mikazuki from Iron Blooded Orphans, Domon from Mobile Fighter G Gundam, or even the most recent protagonist, Suletta from Witch from Mercury).

It's personally not the worst Gundam series, but I guess my nostalgia for it wore off a little bit when I entered my 20's.

I have a few. The King of Queens, for one. We binged watched all the seasons. I used to find Doug and Carrie's relationship and antic amusing.
Watching it more recently and this show is full of double standards, turning domestic violence into a joke and Carrie is just an insufferable, conniving character. I swear she gets worse as the seasons progress.

Scandal. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it up until it flew pretty far off the rails in later seasons it was a fun level of camp... however I suggested to my husband we watch it from the beginning as he had never seen it...

Wow it did not age well. The first... two seasons I think were the worst. Where ignoring someone saying no, generally ignoring that someone is uncomfortable and is telling you to stop is considered romantic and swoon worthy. Fitz is so effing creepy but when he's being creepy the romantic music theme plays. And like technically he doesn't really improve but the other characters get better at dealing with his perpetual manbaby qualities that it makes the midseasons more bearable (ie. The seasons where he and Jake watch Liv on cameras jake put in her apartment, he pretty much traps her in the whitehouse, had her things moved over without her permission and sublets her apt, he's drunk and angry at his wife so on numerous occasions attempts to take this frustration out on Liv sexually etc... you know what the show deems as "true romance"). like when it aired I rooted for the two of them... but as I am an adult watching it back... omg she needs to run.

And it's all insane because they build her up as this powerhouse, feminist, kick a*s big dog-- but then will turn around and maybe to 'build dimension' will have her utterly domineered by the guys in her life. It's so thematically jarring and very much the definition of trying to have one's cake and eat it too.

And yes I know many women get into similar bad relationships and yes many women who are particularly successful are not always a pillar of power in all aspects of their life... but this level of relationship dysfunction shouldn't be glorified and painted as an ideal. It's hella creepy. There are other ways of making her vulnerable without putting her in a love triangle between 'what is consent' fitz and 'completely morally broken' jake to show depth of character.

Sex and the City tv show. They just come off as so needy and mean. Especially Carrie treating Aiden like s**t.

LOTR movies. I've read the trilogy every few years since elementary school. I was wowed when the movies were released and watch them periodically and keep noticing what's missing, not right. I read the trilogy in January and watched the trilogy in March of this year. I could forgive much but they totally miss coming back to the Shire and fixing what the broken Saruman (sp) ruined. Done with the movies. Will reread the books periodically until my eyes fail. Then I'll see if Sam Elliott will audiobook them:)

When the movies are played on a loop on cable it makes them less special. They are terrific movies, though. Agree that so much was cut from the books. Each book should have been 3 movies, not The Hobbit movie.
