Hey Pandas, What’s Your Favorite Book From The Fantasy Fiction Genre? (Closed)
I'm an aspiring writer and the book I'm working on is fantasy fiction. What are your favorite books in the genre? What do you like about them?

Any of the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett.
Have you read Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman?
J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion. I don’t really know why. Since it covers thousands of years and hundreds of characters there’s no real character development to speak of. It’s tough to read without constantly referring to the index to remember who uttered what horrible oath, and which thick-headed son of Finwë or Fingolfin or Finarfin is going to fulfill that oath to the detriment or doom of his family and kingdom. Or which elvish maiden is fair with golden tresses, or fair with dark tresses and dark eyes, or dark tresses and blue eyes, and which son of Bëor or Haleth or Hador is going to bring doom upon all of Beleriand when seeking her hand. Bonus: many characters have many names, used depending on who is addressing them, or changed when they accomplished a great deed, or committed a great crime!
But I still it find it endlessly compelling and have read it several times, sometimes just reading a favorite section (Of Beren and Luthien!) or two.
Hey, I'm a writer too! I'm on the app and for some reason can't add a post to the list so I will comment—and boy do I have a lot of recommendations :) I really enjoy fairytale retellings, especially those with an interesting twisted. Heartless by Marissa Meyer is one of my top favorite books ever. The Bone Spindle is a recent read of mine that I enjoyed as well. The Lunar Chronicles also by Marissa Meyer is a fairytale retelling series that is sci-fi fantasy, and also is quite good. My recommendations tend to lean towards YA, NA, and Adult, though I have read the most YA since I tend to find fewer Adult books that aren't The Darkest Fantasy Plot Ever Created, or Heavily Descriptive Romance Disguised As Fantasy Because There Are Dragons Sometimes. YA is like that too, admittedly. It's hard to find books I *actually* enjoy nowadays. Another book I've enjoyed is Long May She Reign by Rhiannon Thomas. Also The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, though it's a bit more urban fantasy. --
a friend just suggested the lunar chronicles... I'll be sure to read it! I have to admit though, I have read and enjoyed a couple of fantasy-romance novels, but they're a lot more than just dragons.
