Kindness, Compassion

I was new in town and randomly met a lady who was in a book club so as a way to meet people I went. She was hosting it and I was the first person and I felt really awkward. I told her I was sorry to be so early and she said "no no I told you to come a half an hour before the actual time because I just wanted spend time with you all to myself" as she smiled and giggled. It made me feel so special and all my nerves just melted away and we became good friends and I met a lot of nice people through her that day.

We were doing activities at a summer camp and one of the options in one of them was to write someone in your group a nice note. I got one from a girl who called me nice, funny, handsome, and some other things. Still have it, really touched me. :)

My teacher passed me through a class even though I was almost entirely absent from it for half a year. She passed me "on credit," perhaps she assumed that I was going through difficult stuff at the time. It was a very kind thing to do, and I never flunked a class because of attendance after that.

I was at a track meet watching my foster siblings do track stuff. The kids in my town aren't very nice. A girl .com a different school came over and said I was pretty. That was the first time someone my age has said that to me.

A little girl once came up to me on my birthday when I had my grandma (who’s a hairdresser) do my hair and she said “you look like a princess!” It was the sweetest thing

One of the committee members said, “You’ve done a great job” in my master thesis defense. It validates my efforts and gives a peace of mind. (I’m an overthinker).

at my first duty station (KMCAS) after i gave birth, running up the hill on the weekly 3 1/2 mike run was a struggle for a month or so. if i started to fall out, Marines i had never met would grab hold of my hand and pull me up. if they got tired the next one behind would take over till i made it to the top. I've never forgotten the kindness of those Marines and its been 45 years.

I was about 18 or 19 and working retail full time and going to college part time. I was flat broke, had just lost my father and was dating an emotionally abusive loser. My car was running on fumes and I didn't get paid until the next day. It was about 9 or 10pm and I had just worked a 12 hour shift. I pulled into a gas station and put my last three dollars in change in the tank. Now this was almost 30 years ago so that little bit got me a few gallons. As I went into pay before pumping, the man at the pump wouldn't take my change. He threw five dollars of his own in the register. He said he could tell I was having a rough day and not to worry about it. The very next day I came back and tried to pay him back. He refused to let me reimburse him. I've never forgotten that kindness and have paid it forward multiple times!
