This reminds me of Nancy Holten, who was denied Swiss citizenship because of her complaints about the cowbells.

The temple, originally all set in the surrounding rock, is very impressive with its main staues being more than 20 meters tall. Which is even more impressive is that during the construction of the Nasser Reservoire, the whole temple was taken apart in 1963 and re-assembled about 60 meters higher to prevent it from it being flooded. The "rock" it is set in now is artificial, mainly a steel dome camouflaged with sand and rock, but the temple itself is still the 3000 year old original.

Are those sideways basalt columns? The columns in the Columbia River Gorge look like that, but are vertical.

There are huge waterfalls, thermal baths, volcanoes, wildlife of all descriptions, cycling, canoeing, etc., cheap hostels, bars, clubs and almost nobody has heard of it. One of my favourite places in the world.
